Words come from a ~109,000-word English list (abbreviations and offensive words removed). Daily newspaper puzzles use a smaller, hand-picked list, so you may see extra or rare words that the puzzle does not accept. Scoring: 4-letter words 1 point, longer words 1 point per letter, pangrams +7.

How to use the Spelling Bee Solver
Type the center letter (the yellow one every word must contain).
Type the six outer letters in any order.
Press Solve to list every word, with pangrams at the top.
Want hints only? Tick “Hints only” and use the grid; click a blurred word to reveal it.
Copy or download the word list.
How the solver finds the words
Each word in the list is turned into a 26-bit letter set. A word qualifies when its letter set contains the center letter and contains no letter outside the seven you entered; repeated letters are allowed. It is a pangram when its letter set equals all seven letters. This makes solving instant even with over 100,000 words.

Tips for finding more words
Look for common endings made from the letters: -ING, -ED, -ER, -TION, -ABLE.
Double letters are allowed: MAMMA, HEMMED or CANNON can all be valid.
Find the pangram early. It is worth the most points and often suggests related words.
Shuffle the hive to see the letters in new positions; it really does help your brain spot new patterns.
Frequently asked questions
What are the rules of the Spelling Bee puzzle?
You get seven letters in a honeycomb. Words must be at least four letters long, use only the seven letters (repeats allowed) and always include the center letter. Proper nouns, hyphenated words and obscure or offensive words are not accepted.
What is a pangram?
A pangram is a word that uses all seven letters at least once. Every puzzle has at least one. A perfect pangram uses each of the seven letters exactly once, so it is exactly seven letters long.
How are points scored?
Four-letter words are worth 1 point. Longer words score 1 point per letter, so a six-letter word is worth 6. A pangram earns a 7-point bonus on top of its length.
What score do I need for Genius?
Genius is reached at 70% of the puzzle’s total possible points, and Queen Bee means finding every word. Because this solver’s word list is larger than the puzzle’s hand-picked list, its total is usually higher than the official total; use the official maximum from the puzzle if you know it.
Why does the solver show words the puzzle rejects?
Daily newspaper puzzles use a curated list that leaves out obscure, technical and some foreign words. The solver uses a general English word list, so it finds those extra words too. If a word is not accepted, simply move on to the next one.
How do I use it without spoiling the puzzle?
Turn on “Hints only”. Words are blurred and you can use the hint grid (how many words start with each letter at each length) and the two-letter starts list. Click a single blurred word to reveal just that one.
