Make a whole image semi-transparent: drag the opacity slider, see the result over a checkerboard, white, dark or photo backdrop, and download a PNG with real transparency. Add a fade to make the picture melt away toward one side, and process many images at once.

How to use the Image Opacity Changer
Add your images by dropping them in, choosing files or pasting. A sample is shown first.
Set the opacity with the slider, the number box or the 25/50/75% buttons. 100% is fully visible, 0% is invisible.
Optionally add a fade so the image becomes more transparent toward one side or the edges, and set the starting opacity.
Check the preview against different backdrops to see how it will look on a page or slide.
Download the PNG, or all images as a ZIP.
Opacity, alpha and hex values
Opacity says how much of a pixel is visible. In a PNG it is stored as an alpha value from 0 (invisible) to 255 (solid). The tool multiplies every pixel's existing alpha by the opacity you choose: new alpha = old alpha × opacity ÷ 100, rounded to a whole number. The same value appears in CSS as a number from 0 to 1 and in 8-digit hex colors as the last two digits.

Tips
Watermarks usually look best between 15% and 30% opacity: visible enough to identify the owner, faint enough not to spoil the picture.
For slides and documents, a background photo at 20-40% keeps text on top readable. The Fade option lets one side stay clear for text.
Check the result on the real background. A semi-transparent image looks darker on a dark page and lighter on a white one; use the preview backdrops to compare.
Websites can also apply opacity with CSS instead of a new file. Copy CSS gives you the matching opacity or mask-image rule.
Keep the PNG. Opening the file in an editor that flattens images, or converting it to JPG, removes the transparency again.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make an image semi-transparent?
Add the image, move the opacity slider to the level you want, for example 50%, and click Download PNG. Every pixel's alpha value is multiplied by that percentage, so the picture becomes see-through wherever you place it.
Why do I have to save as PNG and not JPG?
JPG has no alpha channel and cannot store transparency, so a semi-transparent image saved as JPG would just look washed out on a white background. PNG and WEBP keep the transparency, so the image blends with whatever is behind it.
What does 50% opacity mean in numbers?
Opacity is stored as an alpha value from 0 to 255. 50% gives alpha 128 (rounded from 127.5), which is CSS opacity 0.5 and the hex suffix 80 in an 8-digit color such as #ffffff80. The tool shows these values for the current setting.
What happens to areas that were already transparent?
They stay transparent. The new opacity is multiplied with the existing alpha, so a logo with a transparent background keeps it, and a pixel that was 50% transparent becomes 25% visible at 50% opacity.
How does the fade option work?
Fade creates a smooth gradient of opacity across the image: it starts at the start opacity on one side and ends at the main opacity on the other side, or at the edges for the Edges option. It is handy for blending a photo into a background or a slide.
Is this the same as making a background transparent?
No. This tool changes the opacity of the entire image evenly. To remove a white or solid background and keep the subject fully visible, use the Make Image Transparent or Background Remover tool.
