Add Watermark to Photo
Put your name, copyright line or logo on your photos in seconds. Load one picture or a whole batch, place the watermark where you like and download full-resolution copies. Your photos never leave your device.
A PNG with a transparent background looks best.
How to use the Add Watermark to Photo
- Add your photos. Drop one or more images on the box or click to choose them.
- Choose Text or Logo. Type your text and pick font, size and colour, or upload a PNG logo and set its width.
- Place it. Click a spot on the position grid, drag the watermark on the preview, or turn on Repeat for a tiled pattern.
- Set opacity and rotation so the mark is visible without hiding the photo.
- Download the current photo, or press Watermark all & download ZIP to process every photo with the same settings.
Choosing a watermark style
| Style | Typical settings | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corner signature | Bottom right, size 3–5%, opacity 50–70% | Portfolios, blogs, social posts | Easy to crop off |
| Centred logo | Centre, logo width 25–40%, opacity 20–35% | Client proofs, product previews | Covers the main subject |
| Tiled diagonal | Repeat on, rotation −30°, spacing 60–120%, opacity 15–30% | Stock previews, documents, ID copies | Most intrusive, hardest to remove |
| Shadowed text | White text, shadow on, opacity 70–90% | Photos with both light and dark areas | More visible than a plain mark |
Because size and margin are percentages of each image, one set of settings gives the same look on a 1080 px Instagram image and a 6000 px camera file, and on portrait and landscape photos in the same batch.
What to write in a text watermark
- Copyright notice: “© 2026 Jane Smith” is the classic form. The © symbol, year and owner make the claim clear, although copyright exists from the moment you take a photo, with or without a notice.
- Website or handle: “janesmith.photo” or “@janesmithphoto” turns shared copies into free advertising.
- Purpose label: “PROOF”, “SAMPLE” or “For rental application only” on a copy of an ID document limits how the copy can be misused.
Keep it short. A watermark with more than five or six words becomes hard to read at small sizes and distracts from the picture.
Making a logo that works as a watermark
A logo watermark should be a PNG with a transparent background so only the logo itself appears on the photo. A single-colour (white or black) version usually works better than a full-colour logo because it sits naturally on top of any image; use white on dark photos and black on bright ones. Export the logo at least as wide as you want it to appear on your largest photo. For example, a 25% wide logo on a 6000 px photo is 1500 px wide, so a 300 px logo would look blurry when scaled up.
Output formats and quality
“Same as original” keeps JPG photos as JPG and PNG images as PNG. JPG at 90–95% quality is visually identical to the original for photos and keeps files small. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, but photo files become several times larger. WebP gives smaller files than JPG at similar quality and is supported by all current browsers. When a transparent PNG is saved as JPG, its transparent areas are filled with white, because JPG has no transparency.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The watermark is drawn on your photos with the HTML canvas in your own browser, and the files are saved straight from there. Nothing is sent over the internet.
Will the watermarked photo lose quality or size?
The output has exactly the same pixel dimensions as the original. Choose PNG for lossless output, or JPG/WebP with a quality of 90% or more for photos. Note that, like any browser editor, metadata such as EXIF camera data is not copied into the new file.
How do I watermark many photos at once?
Load all the photos together. The watermark size, margin and position are relative to each image, so the same settings look consistent on portrait and landscape photos. Press Watermark all & download ZIP to get every photo in one ZIP file.
How do I add a logo with a transparent background?
Open the Logo / image tab and choose a PNG file that has transparency. Transparent areas stay transparent, and the opacity slider makes the whole logo see-through.
What is the best watermark position?
A corner mark at 40 to 70% opacity is unobtrusive for portfolios. If you need stronger protection against cropping, use Repeat to tile a rotated watermark across the whole picture, since a corner mark can simply be cropped off.
Can a watermark be removed?
A small corner watermark can often be cropped or retouched away. A semi-transparent tiled watermark across busy parts of the image is much harder to remove. No watermark is impossible to remove, so also keep your original files and publish reduced-size copies.
