Turn any photo into a cartoon in seconds. The tool smooths away skin and texture detail while keeping edges sharp, reduces the picture to a small set of flat colors and draws bold outlines, just like a hand-inked comic. Tweak the look with sliders and compare before and after. Your photo never leaves your device.

How to use the Photo to Cartoon
Add a photo by dropping it in, choosing a file or pasting with Ctrl+V. A sample picture is cartoonized until you add your own.
Pick a style: Cartoon, Comic ink, Soft paint or Poster.
Adjust the sliders: Smoothing flattens detail, Colors sets how many tones remain, Outlines and Line thickness control the ink lines.
Drag the comparison handle across the image to see the original and the cartoon side by side.
Download the cartoon as PNG or JPG.
How a photo becomes a cartoon
Cartoons and comics use large areas of flat color separated by dark outlines. This tool recreates that look from a real photo in three steps, all computed in your browser:
Bilateral smoothing. Each pixel is replaced by a weighted average of its neighbours, where the weight depends on both distance and color difference: w = exp(−d²/2σs²) · exp(−Δc²/2σr²). Similar colors blend together, so skin, walls and sky become smooth, but strong color changes at edges are kept. The Smoothing slider controls how many passes run and how large a color difference is still blended.
Color quantization. A k-means clustering finds the k most representative colors in the smoothed image and every pixel is snapped to the nearest one. Fewer colors give a bolder, more graphic result; more colors keep shading.
Outlines. An adaptive threshold marks pixels that are noticeably darker than the average of their surroundings. These become the ink lines, which are cleaned of isolated specks and thickened with the Line thickness slider.

Tips for better cartoons
Crop close to the subject first. A face that fills the frame gets cleaner lines than a small face in a busy scene.
If the cartoon looks noisy or has too many small lines, raise Smoothing and lower Outlines.
For a classic animation look, use 6 to 10 colors and a saturation boost of 20 to 40 percent.
Three classic image-processing steps are combined. A bilateral filter blurs areas of similar color while stopping at edges, which removes texture but keeps shapes crisp. K-means color quantization then reduces the image to a few flat colors. Finally an adaptive threshold finds dark edges and draws them as ink outlines on top.
Is this an AI cartoon generator?
No. It does not invent new content or change faces; it filters your real photo, so the result always looks like your picture drawn in a cartoon style. That also means it works instantly and offline once the page has loaded.
Which photos give the best result?
Well-lit photos with a clear subject and a simple background work best, such as portraits, pets, cars and buildings. Very dark or noisy photos produce more speckled lines; raise Smoothing or lower Outlines for those.
What resolution is the cartoon saved in?
By default the photo is processed with its longest side up to 1200 pixels, which keeps the sliders responsive. Choose High quality to work at up to 2400 pixels for printing or large screens; the smoothing step then takes a few seconds.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. All processing happens in your browser in a background worker. The photo is never sent to a server and nothing is stored.
Can I get a cartoon without black outlines?
Yes. Choose the Poster style or move the Outlines slider to zero. You get a flat-color, poster-like image without ink lines.
