How to use the Pivot Point Calculator
Enter the previous period's high, low and close: yesterday's for daily pivots, last week's for weekly, last month's for monthly.
Add the open of that period if you want DeMark pivots.
Pick the method to highlight and the number of decimals for your market.
Optionally enter the current price to see the nearest support and resistance.
Press Calculate pivot points to see the levels, the formulas and all methods side by side.
Pivot point formulas
H, L, C and O are the previous period's high, low, close and open; range = H − L.
Method
Pivot (P)
Level 1
Level 2
Level 3 / 4
Classic
(H + L + C) ÷ 3
R1 = 2P − L, S1 = 2P − H
P ± range
R3 = H + 2(P − L), S3 = L − 2(H − P)
Fibonacci
(H + L + C) ÷ 3
P ± 0.382 × range
P ± 0.618 × range
P ± 1.000 × range
Camarilla
levels from C
C ± range × 1.1 ÷ 12
C ± range × 1.1 ÷ 6
C ± range × 1.1 ÷ 4 and ÷ 2
Woodie
(H + L + 2C) ÷ 4
R1 = 2P − L, S1 = 2P − H
P ± range
same as Classic with Woodie P
DeMark
X ÷ 4
R1 = X ÷ 2 − L, S1 = X ÷ 2 − H

Worked example: H = 120, L = 110, C = 118. Classic P = 348 ÷ 3 = 116, R1 = 232 − 110 = 122, S1 = 232 − 120 = 112, R2 = 126, S2 = 106. Woodie P = (120 + 110 + 236) ÷ 4 = 116.5. Camarilla R3 = 118 + 10 × 1.1 ÷ 4 = 120.75 and S3 = 115.25.
How traders use pivot levels
Bias: price trading above the pivot is often read as a bullish bias for the session, below it as bearish.
Targets and stops: R1/S1 are common first profit targets; a stop just beyond the next level gives a defined risk.
Camarilla in ranges: fading moves at R3/S3 in a sideways market, and treating a break of R4/S4 as a possible trend day.
Confluence: levels that line up with a prior high or low, a round number or a moving average tend to attract more attention.
Timeframe: daily pivots suit intraday trading; weekly and monthly pivots give bigger zones for swing trades.
Pivot points are a technical analysis convention, not a forecast. Always size positions so a wrong call is affordable.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate a pivot point?
The classic pivot is P = (High + Low + Close) ÷ 3 of the previous period. Resistance 1 = 2P − Low, Support 1 = 2P − High, R2 = P + (High − Low), S2 = P − (High − Low), R3 = High + 2(P − Low) and S3 = Low − 2(High − P).
What is the difference between Classic, Fibonacci, Camarilla and Woodie pivots?
All start from the previous high, low and close. Fibonacci places levels at 38.2%, 61.8% and 100% of the range from the pivot. Camarilla builds tighter levels around the close using the range × 1.1 divided by 12, 6, 4 and 2. Woodie gives the close double weight: P = (H + L + 2C) ÷ 4.
Which high, low and close should I use?
Use the period before the one you are trading. Day traders use yesterday's regular-session high, low and close for today's levels; swing traders use last week's or last month's. For 24-hour markets like forex, many traders use the 5 pm New York close.
How are Camarilla pivots calculated?
With range = High − Low and C = Close: R1/S1 = C ± range × 1.1 ÷ 12, R2/S2 = C ± range × 1.1 ÷ 6, R3/S3 = C ± range × 1.1 ÷ 4 and R4/S4 = C ± range × 1.1 ÷ 2. R3/S3 are often watched for reversals and R4/S4 for breakouts.
How do DeMark pivot points work?
DeMark uses the open too. If Close < Open, X = H + 2L + C; if Close > Open, X = 2H + L + C; if equal, X = H + L + 2C. Then P = X ÷ 4, R1 = X ÷ 2 − L and S1 = X ÷ 2 − H.
Do pivot points work?
Pivot points are widely watched reference levels, which is why price sometimes reacts near them, but they do not predict direction. Traders usually combine them with trend, volume and risk management rather than trading every touch.
