PPC budget formulas
Conversions = revenue target ÷ average order value (revenue mode)
Break-even CPC = order value × gross margin × conversion rate
Example: you want 60 sales a month. At a 3.5% conversion rate you need 60 ÷ 0.035 ≈ 1,715 clicks. At $1.80 per click that is about $3,086 a month, or $101.50 a day over 30.4 days, and each sale costs $51.43. With a $150 order value the campaign returns $9,000, a ROAS of 2.92×.

Doubling your conversion rate halves the budget needed for the same result, which is why landing page improvements often pay off faster than bid changes.
Budget planning tips
Use real CPCs from your keyword planner or account history; suggested bids vary widely by industry and location.
Give new campaigns a learning budget before judging them; small samples make conversion rates unreliable.
Keep the daily budget high enough for at least several clicks a day per campaign, or results will be slow and noisy.
Track profit, not just ROAS: a 3× ROAS loses money if your margin is below 33%.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a PPC budget?
Work backwards from your goal: clicks needed = target conversions ÷ conversion rate, and budget = clicks × average CPC. For a revenue goal, first divide the target revenue by the average order value to get conversions. Divide the budget by the number of days for a daily budget.
What daily budget should I set in an ad platform?
Divide your monthly budget by 30.4, the average days in a month. Ad platforms such as Google Ads may spend up to twice the daily budget on a busy day but aim not to exceed the daily average times the days in the month.
How do I find my break-even CPC?
Break-even CPC = average order value × gross margin × conversion rate. If each order brings $150 at a 40% margin and 3.5% of clicks convert, every click is worth $2.10 in gross profit; paying more than that per click loses money before other costs.
What is CPA and how does it relate to CPC?
Cost per acquisition is the ad cost to win one conversion: CPA = CPC ÷ conversion rate. A $1.80 click with a 3.5% conversion rate means a CPA of about $51.43.
What if I do not know my conversion rate yet?
Start with a conservative estimate, run a small test budget until you have enough clicks to measure it (often a few hundred), then recalculate. The table of budgets at other conversion rates shows how much the answer depends on this number.
Should PPC budget include management fees?
This calculator covers media spend only. If an agency or software charges a percentage or fixed fee, add it on top when planning your total marketing budget.
