EST to IST Converter
Enter a US Eastern time and date to get the time in India. The converter knows whether the date is in EST or EDT, so it adds 10½ or 9½ hours correctly, and the live clocks show both places right now.

The EST to IST formula
IST = EST + 10:30 and IST = EDT + 9:30. The converter turns your Eastern wall time into UTC with the offset valid on that date (−5 h or −4 h) and then adds India's fixed +5:30. Any Eastern time from 1:30 PM EST (2:30 PM EDT) onwards lands on the next calendar day in India.
Working with teams in India
- Morning US time is the overlap. Before 10:00 AM ET reaches India before about 8:30 PM IST, when most people are still reachable.
- End-of-day requests arrive at night. A 4:00 PM ET email lands at 2:30 AM IST (1:30 AM in summer) and will be read the next India morning, which can work as an overnight hand-off.
- Weekends shift. Friday 2:00 PM EST is already Saturday 12:30 AM IST.
- Indian holidays such as Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15) and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2) are national holidays in India even when US offices are open.
Frequently asked questions
How many hours ahead is India from EST?
India is 10 hours 30 minutes ahead of EST and 9 hours 30 minutes ahead of EDT. EST applies from the first Sunday in November to the second Sunday in March; EDT applies the rest of the year.
What is 9 AM EST in IST?
9:00 AM EST is 7:30 PM IST the same day. In summer, 9:00 AM EDT is 6:30 PM IST.
What is 5 PM EST in India?
5:00 PM EST is 3:30 AM IST the next day (2:30 AM IST in summer under EDT). The end of the US East Coast workday is the middle of the night in India.
How do I convert Eastern time to India time?
Add 10 hours 30 minutes in winter or 9 hours 30 minutes in summer. If the result passes midnight, move to the next day: 2:00 PM EST Monday + 10:30 = 12:30 AM IST Tuesday.
What is a good meeting time from the US East Coast to India?
Early morning Eastern time. 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM EST is 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM IST; in summer, 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM EDT is 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM IST, just after the India workday.
Why does my recurring call move in India twice a year?
India has no daylight saving time. When the US springs forward in March, a meeting fixed at 9:00 AM Eastern moves from 7:30 PM to 6:30 PM IST, and it moves back in November.
Is EST the same as ET?
ET (Eastern Time) is the zone name. EST is its winter standard time (UTC−5) and EDT its summer daylight time (UTC−4). People often say EST all year, so check the date before converting; this tool does that for you.
