Mercari fee formula
Selling fee = item price × selling fee %
Payment processing fee = amount the buyer pays × processing % + fixed fee
Example with the default rates: a $40 sale with $7.50 seller-paid shipping. Selling fee $4.00, processing $40 × 2.9% + $0.50 = $1.66, so earnings are $40 − $4.00 − $1.66 − $7.50 = $26.84. With a $12 item cost the profit is $14.84.

The table ignores shipping to keep it simple; with buyer-paid shipping the processing fee also applies to the shipping amount. The fixed fee hurts most on cheap items, so bundling low-priced items into one listing keeps more of each sale. Mercari's fee structure has changed several times, so confirm the current rates before relying on these numbers.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Mercari take from a sale?
With the defaults here (10% selling fee plus 2.9% + $0.50 payment processing), Mercari keeps $6.95 of a $50 sale. Mercari has changed its fees several times, so check its current fee page and edit the rates if they differ.
Is the processing fee charged on shipping?
The payment processing fee applies to the amount the buyer pays, so when the buyer pays shipping it is included. The selling fee is calculated on the item price.
Should I offer free shipping on Mercari?
Free shipping can make a listing more attractive, but the label cost comes out of your earnings. Compare both options with the shipping toggle and raise the price if needed.
How do I calculate profit on Mercari?
Profit = sale price − selling fee − processing fee − seller-paid shipping − what you paid for the item − any payout fee. The calculator shows each part.
Why are fees a bigger share on cheap items?
The fixed $0.50 processing fee is the same on every sale, so it is 5% of a $10 item but only 0.5% of a $100 item.
Is this calculator made by Mercari?
No. It is an independent estimate that runs in your browser. Mercari sets its own fees and can change them at any time.
