How the @handle version is made
Accents are removed (é becomes e) and & becomes "and".
Apostrophes, spaces and other symbols are removed; letters, numbers, periods, underscores and hyphens are kept.
Everything is lowercased and cut to 30 characters, YouTube's maximum handle length. Handles shorter than 3 characters are flagged.
Example: Maya's Kitchen becomes @mayaskitchen.
Channel name checklist
Say it out loud: would someone spell it correctly after hearing it once?
Keep it short: names under about 20 characters are easier to remember and fit better in search results and on mobile.
Think long term: will it still fit if your topics change?
Check availability: YouTube handle, Instagram, TikTok and a matching domain.
Search it: make sure no established creator or brand already uses a similar name.
Frequently asked questions
What makes a good YouTube channel name?
Good channel names are short, easy to say and spell, memorable, and hint at what the channel is about or who is behind it. Avoid numbers and odd spellings that people mishear, and pick something that still works if your content grows beyond one topic.
What are the rules for a YouTube handle?
According to YouTube's help pages, a handle must be 3 to 30 characters long and can use letters and numbers plus underscores, hyphens and periods. It cannot look like a URL or phone number and must not already be taken. The generator removes spaces and other characters and shows a handle-ready version of each name.
Is the channel name the same as the handle?
No. The channel name is the display name shown on your channel and videos and can include spaces, while the handle is the unique @name used in your channel URL and mentions. Many creators make them match, for example Maya Cooks and @mayacooks.
Does the generator check if a name is available?
No. The tool runs offline in your browser and cannot query YouTube. Search for the name on YouTube, try claiming the handle in YouTube Studio, and check social networks and domain names before you decide.
Can I change my YouTube channel name later?
Yes, you can change your channel name and handle in YouTube Studio, but YouTube limits how often you can change them in a short period, and changing often can confuse your audience. It is worth choosing carefully at the start.
Should I use my real name for my channel?
Using your name works well for personal brands, vlogs, coaching and anything where you are the main attraction, and it lets you change topics freely. A niche name can be easier to discover and to sell or hand over later. The With your name style mixes both approaches.
Is it okay to use trademarks in a channel name?
Avoid brand names, game titles or company names in your channel name, since that can cause confusion or trademark problems. Use descriptive words for your niche instead.
