How to use the Speech to Text
Choose your language and accent from the list, for example English (United States) or Español (México).
Press Start dictation and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
Speak clearly at a normal pace. Grey text is the live guess; it turns black when a phrase is final. Say comma, period or new paragraph to add punctuation.
Edit the text directly in the box. Click anywhere in the text to dictate at that spot.
Press Stop, then copy the text or download it as a .txt file.
Tips for accurate voice typing
Pick the right accent. English (India), English (UK) and English (US) use different speech models. Choosing the one closest to how you speak noticeably improves accuracy.
Use a good microphone. A headset or earbuds with a microphone close to your mouth beat a laptop's built-in microphone, especially in noisy rooms.
Speak in complete phrases. Talk at a normal, steady pace and pause briefly between sentences. The recognizer uses the context of the whole phrase to pick the right words.
Say punctuation as separate words. "I'm ready comma let's go period" becomes "I'm ready, let's go."
Fix mistakes as you go. Click in the text to correct a word; new dictation continues at the cursor position.
Keep the tab in front. Some browsers pause the microphone when the tab is in the background or the screen locks.

Frequently asked questions
Which browsers support speech to text?
This tool uses the Web Speech API. It works in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and other Chromium browsers on desktop and Android, and in Safari on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Firefox does not support speech recognition yet; the page shows a message if your browser can't do it.
Is my voice recorded or uploaded?
This website never receives your audio or your text. However, the speech recognition itself is provided by your browser, and some browsers (for example Chrome and Edge) send the audio to their own online speech service to convert it into text. Safari can process speech on the device. Don't dictate highly confidential information if that matters to you.
How do I add punctuation by voice?
Turn on Voice punctuation and say the command as a separate word: period or full stop, comma, question mark, exclamation mark, colon, semicolon, dash, open quote, close quote, open bracket, close bracket, new line and new paragraph. Commands work in English; for other languages, add punctuation by typing.
Why does dictation stop by itself?
Browsers end a recognition session after a period of silence or after a few minutes. With Continuous listening on, the tool restarts the session automatically until you press Stop. If the microphone is blocked or the connection drops, you will see a message explaining what happened.
Does speech to text work offline?
Usually not. In Chrome and Edge the recognition needs an internet connection. Safari on recent Apple devices can recognize some languages on the device. If you get a network error, check your connection and try again.
How can I get more accurate results?
Use a headset or a microphone close to your mouth, reduce background noise, speak at a steady pace and choose the right accent (for example English UK vs US). Short pauses between sentences help the recognizer finalize each phrase.
Is there a time limit?
No. You can dictate for as long as you like. Your transcript is also saved in your browser's local storage, so it is still there if you reload the page.
