Pick who is applying: an employee, a student, or a parent writing to the school for a child.
Choose the leave type and set the first and last day of leave (the same day for one-day leave).
Enter the names: yours, your job title or class, the recipient and the company or school.
Add a short reason and, if you like, a handover plan, a phone number and a certificate mention.
Copy or download the finished letter. Press Generate leave letter again for alternative wording.
The parts of a leave application
Whether it goes to a manager, HR or a school principal, a leave application follows the same order. The generator fills in each part from your answers:
Sender, date and recipient: in a formal letter, your name and designation or class, the date, then "To," with the recipient's name, title and the organisation.
Subject line: the number of days, the type of leave and the dates, so the request can be approved at a glance.
The request and reason: one or two sentences. Short and factual is better than long and detailed.
Cover and contact: who will handle your work (or how a student will catch up) and how you can be reached.
Return date and closing: the day you will be back, a polite request for approval, and a sign-off.
How the days are calculated
Leave days are counted inclusively: days = last day − first day + 1. Leave from Thursday the 12th to Monday the 16th is 16 − 12 + 1 = 5 calendar days, of which 3 are working days (Thursday, Friday and Monday) and 2 fall on the weekend. The "back on" date is the first weekday after your last day of leave. Many employers count leave in working days only, and some exclude public holidays too, so check your leave policy before you submit.

Frequently asked questions
How do I write a leave application?
A good leave application states the type of leave, the exact dates and number of days, a brief reason, how your work or studies will be covered, when you will be back, and a polite request for approval. The subject line should summarise all of this, for example: Application for 2 Days Sick Leave (October 20 to October 21).
How are the leave days counted?
The tool counts calendar days inclusively: last day minus first day plus one. Leave from Monday to Wednesday is 3 days. It also shows how many of those days are working days (Monday to Friday) and how many fall on a weekend. Public holidays are not removed because they differ by country and employer.
Should I send a leave application as a letter or an email?
Most offices now accept leave requests by email or through an HR system, so the email format is the usual choice for employees. Schools and colleges often still expect a written letter or a note in the student diary, especially when a parent is applying for a child. Both formats contain the same information.
What reason should I give for sick leave?
Keep it short and factual, for example that you have a fever and the doctor advised rest. You do not need to share detailed medical information. If your employer or school requires a medical certificate for longer absences, tick the certificate option so the letter mentions that it is attached.
Can a parent write a leave application for a child?
Yes. Choose Parent for a child, enter the child's name and class, and the letter is written to the class teacher or principal in the parent's name, with the date the child will return to school.
Is my information saved or sent anywhere?
No. The letter is generated in your browser from built-in templates. Your last entries are remembered only in this browser so you can come back to them, and Reset clears the form.
