How to use the Cost Per Lead Calculator
Choose a mode: CPL from spend and leads, CPL from clicks and conversion rate, or max budget from a target CPL.
Enter your numbers for the chosen mode.
Optionally add the lead-to-customer rate to see what each customer costs.
Paste your channels (name, spend, leads per line) to compare them.
Read the results and download the channel table as CSV.
Cost per lead formulas
CPL = campaign spend ÷ leads
Leads from clicks = clicks × conversion rate, so CPL = CPC ÷ conversion rate
Max budget = target CPL × leads wanted
Max CPC = target CPL × conversion rate
Cost per customer = CPL ÷ lead-to-customer rate
Example: $2,500 spend and 125 leads is a $20 CPL. If 10% of leads buy, each customer costs $20 ÷ 0.10 = $200.

Doubling the landing page conversion rate halves the cost per lead at the same click price, often the cheapest way to cut CPL.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate cost per lead?
Cost per lead = total campaign spend ÷ number of leads. Spending $2,500 to generate 125 leads gives a CPL of $20.
How do I calculate CPL from clicks?
First find the leads: clicks × landing page conversion rate. Then divide spend by leads. 3,200 clicks at 4% conversion is 128 leads; with $1,600 spend the CPL is $12.50, which is also CPC ÷ conversion rate ($0.50 ÷ 0.04).
How much budget do I need for a target CPL?
Budget = target CPL × the number of leads you want. To get 200 leads at $25 each you can spend up to $5,000. With a 5% conversion rate, your cost per click must stay at or below $25 × 5% = $1.25.
What is a good cost per lead?
It depends entirely on what a lead is worth to you. Work backwards: if 10% of leads become customers worth $1,000 in gross profit, each lead is worth $100, so any CPL well below that is profitable. CPL varies widely by industry, channel and lead definition, so compare against your own history.
What is the difference between CPL and CPA?
CPL is the cost of getting a contact or inquiry. CPA (cost per acquisition) usually means the cost per paying customer or sale. CPA = CPL ÷ lead-to-customer rate.
What should be included in the spend?
For paid campaigns use the media spend. For a fuller picture include agency fees, content production, tools and the staff time spent on the campaign; this gives a "fully loaded" CPL.
