How to use the RPM Calculator (Revenue per Mille)
- Choose what to find: your RPM, estimated earnings, or views needed.
- Enter the known values: revenue and views, RPM and views, or RPM and a goal.
- Pick the period so the tool can show daily views needed and a yearly pace.
- Read the result and compare scenarios in the tables.
- Copy the results or download the tables as CSV.
RPM formulas
- RPM = revenue ÷ views × 1,000
- Earnings = views ÷ 1,000 × RPM
- Views needed = earnings goal ÷ RPM × 1,000
Example: $450 earned from 120,000 pageviews is an RPM of $3.75, or $0.00375 per view. One million views at the same RPM would earn $3,750.

RPM vs CPM
CPM is an advertiser metric: the price paid for 1,000 ad impressions. RPM is a publisher metric: what you receive per 1,000 views of your content. Because some views show no ads, some show several, and platforms take a share, your RPM can be well below the CPMs advertisers pay. To raise RPM, focus on audiences and topics advertisers value, improve ad layout without hurting the reader experience, and add other income such as affiliate links and sponsorships that also count toward revenue.
Frequently asked questions
What does RPM mean?
RPM stands for revenue per mille (per thousand). It is the amount a publisher or creator earns for every 1,000 views or pageviews, after any platform revenue share, across all revenue sources included in the figure.
How do you calculate RPM?
RPM = total revenue ÷ total views × 1,000. If you earned $450 from 120,000 pageviews, your RPM is 450 ÷ 120,000 × 1,000 = $3.75.
What is the difference between RPM and CPM?
CPM (cost per mille) is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions. RPM is what you earn per 1,000 views of your page or video. RPM is usually lower than CPM because not every view shows an ad, and platforms keep a share of ad revenue.
How many views do I need to earn $1,000?
Views = goal ÷ RPM × 1,000. At a $3.75 RPM you need about 266,667 views; at a $2 RPM you need 500,000 views. Use the third mode to calculate it for your own RPM.
Why does my RPM change from month to month?
RPM depends on audience location, topic, season, ad blockers, how many ads are shown and how much advertisers bid. Many sites see higher RPMs late in the year when ad budgets peak and lower RPMs in January.
Should I use page RPM or impression RPM?
Page RPM divides earnings by pageviews and is best for estimating income from traffic. Impression RPM divides by ad impressions and is better for comparing ad setups. This calculator works with either, as long as revenue and the view count match.
