How to use the Letter from Santa Generator
- Enter the child's name and age, and optionally your town.
- List a few good deeds, one per line, written to follow "I heard that you…" (for example "helped set the table every night").
- Add the Christmas wish and choose whether Santa promises to do his best, hints at a surprise, or doesn't mention it.
- Pick a letter style and design. Press Shuffle wording for different sentences, or open "Edit the letter text by hand" to change anything.
- Download PDF (or PNG) and print it at actual size. Sign it, fold it and tuck it into an envelope addressed from the North Pole.
What goes into a great letter from Santa
Children notice details. The letters that feel the most magical mention things only Santa (and the elves) could know. Here is how each field in the generator is used:
| Field | How Santa uses it | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Greeting and the whole tone of the letter | "Dear Lily," |
| Age | A line about how much they have grown | "I can hardly believe you are 6 years old now!" |
| Town | Shows Santa knows where they live | "The elves marked Springfield with a gold star on my map." |
| Good deeds | Proof they are on the Nice List | "I heard that you shared toys with your little brother…" |
| Wish | Answers their letter, with or without a promise | "I know you are hoping for a red bicycle." |
| Keep working on | A gentle, positive nudge | "Keep practicing going to bed on time." |
Tips for writing good deeds
- Be specific: "fed the cat every morning" beats "was good". Real moments make the letter believable.
- Use past tense verbs: start with words like helped, shared, learned, tried, cleaned, made or was.
- Keep it to three or four: the letter reads best with a short list. Up to five deeds are used.
- Mix big and small: a school achievement next to a kind gesture shows Santa notices everything.
- Keep the nudge kind: "keep working on" should be one small, achievable thing, phrased positively.
Making the delivery special
Many families leave the letter by the tree on Christmas morning, tuck it into a stocking, or post it so it arrives in early December. A little glitter or a "North Pole" return address on the envelope helps. For younger children, the Short style uses simple sentences that are easy to read aloud together.
Frequently asked questions
Is this letter from Santa really free?
Yes. You can create, edit, download and print as many letters as you like with no sign-up and no watermark. The letter is made in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded.
How do I make the letter look more authentic?
Print it on cream, parchment or thick paper, sign Santa's name by hand with a red or gold pen, and post it in an envelope addressed from "Santa Claus, North Pole". Mentioning a real good deed your child did this year makes the biggest impression.
Will Santa promise the gift my child asked for?
Only if you want him to. Under "About the wish" you can choose "Santa will do his best" (no firm promise), "Hint at a surprise" or "Don't mention it", which is handy if the gift is not going to happen.
Can I change the wording?
Yes. Shuffle wording picks different sentences for the same details. For full control, open "Edit the letter text by hand": the first line is the greeting, blank lines separate paragraphs, and the lines ending with "Santa Claus" become the signature.
What paper size should I print on?
Choose US Letter (8.5 by 11 inches) or A4 before downloading. In the print dialog select "Actual size" or 100% scale so the border is not cut off. The PDF and PNG are rendered at about 150 pixels per inch, sharp enough for home printers.
Can I make letters for several children?
Yes. Make the first letter and download it, then change the name, age, deeds and wish and download again. Each child gets their own personalized letter.
What if the PDF download does not work?
The PDF uses a small library that loads the first time you press Download PDF. If it cannot load, for example when you are offline, press Print and choose "Save as PDF" as the printer, or download the PNG image instead.
