Christmas mailing timeline
Early November: pick your photos and template; take a fresh family picture if you need one.
Mid November: print a test copy on plain paper to check spelling, the fold and photo crops, then print the final cards on card stock.
Early December: mail international cards first; overseas post can take two weeks or more in the busy season.
Mid December: mail domestic cards so they arrive well before December 25. Check your postal service's published holiday shipping deadlines for the exact dates each year.
Tips for a card that looks store-bought
Use card stock of about 200 to 250 g/m² (65 to 90 lb cover). Matte stock is easiest to write on with a pen.
Keep faces inside the safe area shown as a dashed line; most home printers leave a 3 to 6 mm white margin.
Choose bright, well-lit photos. Prints come out a little darker than screens, so slightly bright photos print best.
Score before folding: run a blunt knife or an empty ballpoint pen along a ruler at the fold marks for a crisp edge.
Sending digitally? Download the front as PNG and share it by text, email or social media; it is 300 dpi, so it also prints well.
Frequently asked questions
How do I print a folded Christmas card at home?
Download the PDF and print it double-sided at 100% (actual size) with Flip on short edge. Page 1 is the outside with the back and front, page 2 is the inside. Fold the sheet in half so the front faces out. If the inside comes out upside down, tick Rotate inside page 180° and print again; without a duplex printer, print page 1, turn the sheet over in the tray and print page 2.
What size are the cards and which envelopes fit?
The folded half-letter card is 5.5 × 8.5 in and fits an A9 envelope (5.75 × 8.75 in). The folded A5 card is 148 × 210 mm and fits a C5 envelope. The flat card is 5 × 7 in, the most common photo card size, and fits an A7 envelope (5.25 × 7.25 in).
Can I order prints of a 5 × 7 photo card?
Yes. Choose the Flat 5 × 7 in format and download the PNG of the front (1500 × 2100 pixels at 300 dpi) or the two-page PDF. Most drugstore and online photo labs accept a 5 × 7 image upload, and many print the back side too if you send the message side as a second image.
How do I add my own photo?
Double-click a photo placeholder on the card, or select it and press Replace photo, and choose a picture from your device. Use the Zoom and Move photo sliders to frame faces, and pick a rectangle, rounded, circle or arch frame. Add photo places an extra picture anywhere on the card.
Why do my photos look blurry when printed?
Each panel is printed at 300 dpi, so a photo that fills a 5.5 in wide front should be about 1650 pixels wide or more. Photos from phones are large enough; images saved from social media or messaging apps are often compressed and may look soft in print.
What should I write in a Christmas card?
Start with a greeting, add one or two personal lines about the year or a shared memory, then a wish for the season and the new year, and sign with your names. The message list includes ideas for family, friends, colleagues and clients, kids and grandparents, a faith-based verse and a non-religious Happy Holidays message.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser: photos are read and drawn on your own device and the PDF or PNG is created locally. Nothing is sent to a server.
