How the countdown keeps exact time
When you press Start, the timer records the end moment as start time + 1,200,000 ms on the browser's monotonic clock (performance.now()). Every screen update subtracts the current time from that end moment instead of counting ticks, so a throttled background tab or a busy computer cannot make it fall behind. Pausing stores the time left, and Resume sets a new end moment that far in the future.
Frequently asked questions
How do I set a 20 minute timer?
It is already set to 20:00. Press Start or the Space bar; the alarm rings at 0:00 until you press Stop alarm.
How many seconds are in 20 minutes?
20 minutes is 1,200 seconds or 1,200,000 milliseconds, one third of an hour (about 0.333 hours).
What is the 20-20-20 rule?
It is an eye-strain tip: every 20 minutes of looking at a screen, look at something about 20 feet (6 metres) away for 20 seconds. Restart this timer after each break.
Can I hear a reminder at the halfway point?
Yes. Tick "Soft chime at the halfway mark" and a quiet chime plays once when 10 minutes are left.
Will it keep running if my screen locks?
The timer stays accurate while the tab is open, but some phones pause web pages when locked. Keep the screen on, or use notifications on a computer.
Can I add or remove time?
Use +1 min and −1 min at any time, or pick a preset. During the alarm, +1 min acts as a one-minute snooze.
