How to use the 40 Minute Timer
- Press Start or hit the Space bar. The 40:00 countdown begins immediately.
- Want a reminder midway? Tick Soft chime at the halfway mark to hear a gentle chime at 20:00 left.
- Fine-tune the length with the ± buttons or pick another preset.
- Choose an alarm sound and volume, then press Play test sound to check you can hear it.
- When time is up, press Stop alarm or Space. Press R to reset to 40:00.

How the countdown keeps exact time
When you press Start, the timer records the end moment as start time + 2,400,000 ms on the browser's monotonic clock (performance.now()). Every screen update subtracts the current time from that end moment instead of counting ticks, so a throttled background tab or a busy computer cannot make it fall behind. Pausing stores the time left, and Resume sets a new end moment that far in the future.

How do I set a 40 minute timer?
It is already set to 40:00. Press Start or the Space bar and the alarm rings when it reaches zero.
How many seconds are in 40 minutes?
40 minutes is 2,400 seconds or 2,400,000 milliseconds, two thirds of an hour (about 0.667 hours).
When does the halfway chime play?
If switched on, a soft chime plays once at 20:00 left.
Can I adjust the time?
Yes. Use +1 min / −1 min, the presets from 20 to 60 minutes, or ?m= in the address, for example ?m=35.
Will it stay accurate for 40 minutes?
Yes. The timer recalculates the remaining time from the clock and the stored end time, so it stays accurate in background tabs as long as the device stays awake.
Can I show it on a big screen?
Yes. Press F or the Fullscreen button for large digits that are easy to read across a room.
