How the countdown keeps exact time
When you press Start, the timer records the end moment as start time + 1,500,000 ms on the browser's monotonic clock (performance.now()). Every screen update subtracts the current time from that end moment instead of counting ticks, so a throttled background tab or a busy computer cannot make it fall behind. Pausing stores the time left, and Resume sets a new end moment that far in the future.
Frequently asked questions
How do I set a timer for 25 minutes?
The timer opens at 25:00. Press Start or the Space bar; the alarm sounds at 0:00 until you stop it.
How many seconds are in 25 minutes?
25 minutes is 1,500 seconds or 1,500,000 milliseconds, about 0.417 hours.
Why 25 minutes?
It is the work interval of the Pomodoro Technique, created by Francesco Cirillo: 25 minutes of focus, then a 5 minute break, with a longer break after four rounds. Our Pomodoro timer automates the cycle.
When does the halfway chime play?
When switched on, it plays once at 12:30 left.
Can I pause the timer?
Yes. Press Pause or Space, then Resume to continue from the same time. R resets it to 25:00.
Does it keep running in the background?
Yes. The countdown is based on the clock, so it stays accurate in a background tab. Keep the tab open and the computer awake.
