How to use the Mood Tracker
Pick a mood for today on the emoji scale (or choose an earlier date).
Add details if you like: hours of sleep, minutes of exercise, factors that applied and a short note.
Press Save entry. The day turns the color of your mood in the calendar.
Check the Trends section to see your average, streak, chart and which factors go with better days.
Back up your log now and then with Download backup, and import it on another device or browser.
Getting useful patterns from a mood log
A mood tracker works best when logging takes seconds and happens at the same time each day, for example before bed. After two or three weeks the calendar and the factor table start to show patterns you might not notice day to day.
What you log
Tip
What it can reveal
Mood (1–5)
Rate the whole day, not the last hour
Overall direction, good and difficult stretches, weekday rhythm
Sleep hours
Enter the sleep from the night before the day you rate
Whether nights under 7 hours line up with lower days
Exercise minutes
Count walks and active chores too
How active days compare with resting days
Factors
Keep the list short and specific; add your own
Which situations tend to go with better or worse days
Note
One line about what stood out
Context when you look back at an unusual day
Reading the trends
Average mood is the mean of your ratings in the chosen period; the comparison is with the period of the same length just before it.
The 7-day average line smooths out single good or bad days so you can see the overall direction. It is drawn where at least two of the last seven days are logged.
Best weekday is the day of the week with the highest average rating in the period.
Logging streak counts consecutive logged days up to today (or yesterday, if today is not logged yet).
Small samples can mislead: a factor seen on only two or three days can swing a lot. Look at the Days column before drawing conclusions.
Frequently asked questions
Where is my mood data stored?
Only in your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account. Clearing your browser data or using private browsing removes it, so download a JSON backup regularly if your log matters to you.
What does the mood scale mean?
It is a simple 1 to 5 scale: 1 Awful, 2 Bad, 3 Okay, 4 Good, 5 Great. Rate the day as a whole. Using the same scale every day matters more than getting the exact number right.
How is the factor comparison calculated?
For each factor the tracker averages your mood on days where it applied and on days where it did not, within the chosen period, and shows the difference. Sleep is split at 7 hours and exercise at 20 minutes. A factor appears once there are at least two days with it and two without.
Does a factor with a big difference cause my mood?
Not necessarily. The table shows patterns in your own log, and other things often happen on the same days. Treat it as a hint about what to pay attention to, not as proof.
What is a year in pixels?
It is a grid with one small square per day for the last 12 months, colored by that day's mood. Each column is a week, from Sunday at the top to Saturday at the bottom, so long good or difficult stretches are easy to spot.
Can I use it on my phone and computer?
Each browser keeps its own copy. Download a backup on one device and use Import backup on the other; imported days are merged with existing ones, and days in the file replace the same dates.
Is this a substitute for professional help?
No. A mood log can be useful to share with a doctor or counselor, but it is not a diagnosis or treatment. If you feel low most days or are struggling to cope, please reach out to a health professional or someone you trust.
