    Export and import formats

    • JSON contains every list with all task details (text, done state, due date, priority, created time). Use it as a backup or to move your lists to another browser.
    • CSV has one row per task with the columns list, task, done, due, priority and created, ready for Excel or Google Sheets.
    • Text is a Markdown checklist such as - [x] Book flights, which pastes nicely into notes apps, GitHub or chat.

Importing a text file adds one task per line to the current list. Bullets (-, *, 1.) are removed and [x] marks a task as done.

Tips for a to do list that works

    • Write tasks as actions: "Email Sam the invoice" is easier to start than "Invoice".
    • Break big jobs down into steps you can finish in under an hour.
    • Pick your top three each morning and drag them to the top of the list.
    • Use due dates sparingly, only for real deadlines, so overdue warnings stay meaningful.
    • Keep separate lists for work, home and shopping so each one stays short.
    • Clear completed tasks at the end of the week and enjoy the progress bar reaching 100%.

    Frequently asked questions

    Where are my tasks saved?

In your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded and you don't need an account. Clearing your browser data or using a private window removes them, so export a JSON backup now and then.

Can I use the list on another device?

Export it as JSON on the first device and import the file on the other. The lists are not synced automatically because nothing is stored on a server.

How do I reorder tasks on a phone?

Press and drag the ⋮⋮ handle at the left of a task. Dragging the handle does not scroll the page, so you can move tasks precisely.

What text formats can I import?

A JSON file exported by this tool, or any plain text file with one task per line. Markdown checklists such as '- [x] Buy milk' keep their done state, and bullets or numbers at the start of a line are removed.

Can I undo a deleted task?

Yes. After deleting a task an Undo button appears for a few seconds. Clear completed asks you to press it twice to avoid accidents.

Is there a limit to the number of tasks?

There is no fixed limit. Browsers allow a few megabytes of local storage per site, which is enough for many thousands of tasks.
