How to use the Square Fee Calculator
Choose a mode: fee and net deposit, or price to cover fees.
Enter the sale amount.
Pick the payment method; tick Edit rates for custom pricing.
Optionally enter sales per month for monthly totals.
Press Calculate fee and compare methods in the table.
Price to cover fees = (amount you want + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − rate)
Example: a $100 in-person sale costs $100 × 2.6% + $0.15 = $2.75, so $97.25 is deposited. To deposit a full $100 from an online sale, charge ($100 + $0.30) ÷ 0.971 = $103.30.

For large invoices, ACH bank transfer is far cheaper than card; for small ones the $1 minimum can make it the more expensive option. Square's paid plans and custom pricing can lower these rates.
Frequently asked questions
What are Square's processing fees?
The defaults here are Square's standard US rates: 2.6% + 15¢ in person, 2.9% + 30¢ online, 3.5% + 15¢ for keyed or card-on-file payments, 3.3% + 30¢ for card-paid invoices and 1% (minimum $1) for ACH invoices.
How much does Square take from $100?
An in-person $100 sale costs $2.75 and deposits $97.25. Online it costs $3.20, keyed in $3.65.
How do I charge so I receive the full amount?
Divide the amount you want plus the fixed fee by one minus the rate. For an in-person $100: ($100 + $0.15) ÷ 0.974 ≈ $102.82, which leaves exactly $100 after the $2.82 fee. Check local rules before adding a surcharge.
Why are keyed-in payments more expensive?
Manually entered cards carry a higher fraud risk because the physical card is not present, so card networks and Square charge more for them.
What is the cheapest way to take payments with Square?
For large invoices, ACH bank transfer at 1% (minimum $1) is much cheaper than card: $10 on a $1,000 invoice versus $33.30 by card. For card payments, in-person tap, dip or swipe has the lowest standard rate.
Is this calculator made by Square?
No. It is an independent estimate that runs in your browser. Your exact rates are in your Square dashboard and can differ with paid plans or custom pricing.
