How to use the Webcam Photo Booth
- Press Start camera and allow camera access. Choose another camera in the side panel if you have more than one.
- Pick a layout (strip of 4, strip of 3, 2 × 2 grid or single) and a countdown length.
- Choose a filter: the live preview shows exactly how your photos will look.
- Press Take photos and pose. The booth counts down before every shot and flashes when it takes the picture.
- Pick a frame and caption, then press Download PNG strip. Tap a single shot to save it on its own as a JPG.
Tips for great photo booth pictures
- Light from the front. Sit facing a window or a lamp; light from behind turns faces into silhouettes and makes webcams grainy.
- Plan four poses. The classic sequence is smile, silly face, surprised and a group hug or kiss. The countdown gives you time to change between shots.
- Camera at eye level. Raise the laptop on a few books so the webcam looks straight at you instead of up your nose.
- Use a longer countdown for groups. Five or ten seconds gives everyone time to get into the frame.
- Match the filter to the frame. B&W or Noir on the film strip looks like a vintage booth; Vivid or Pop art suits the pink and mint frames.
Layouts and output sizes
| Layout | Photos | Image size (with caption) | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strip of 4 | 4 | 672 × 2,074 px | Classic 2 × 6 inch booth strip |
| Strip of 3 | 3 | 672 × 1,602 px | Shorter strip, stories and bookmarks |
| 2 × 2 grid | 4 | 1,294 × 1,130 px | Social posts and square-ish prints |
| Single | 1 | 1,096 × 977 px | Profile pictures and quick snaps |
Sizes are for the classic frame with a caption and date. The film strip frame adds wider side borders for the sprocket holes.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded or saved anywhere?
No. The camera image is processed in your browser, and the photos and strip are created on your device. They are gone when you close or reload the page unless you download them.
Why can't the photo booth access my camera?
Allow the camera when the browser asks. If you blocked it before, click the camera or lock icon in the address bar and allow it for this site. Close other apps or tabs that are using the webcam, such as video calls, and make sure the page is opened over https.
What size are the photos?
Each photo is cropped to the classic 4:3 shape from the centre of your camera image and saved at up to 1280 × 960 pixels, depending on your webcam. A strip of 4 is 672 × 2,074 pixels including the frame and caption, which prints nicely at about 2 × 6 inches.
Can I print the photo strip?
Yes. Download the PNG and print it on photo paper. For the traditional 2 × 6 inch strip, print it at that size. You can also put two strips side by side on a 4 × 6 inch print and cut them apart.
Why are my photos mirrored?
Mirror (selfie) view is on by default because it feels natural, like looking in a mirror. Text in the background will appear reversed. Untick Mirror before shooting if you want the photos the right way round.
Can I use it on a phone?
Yes, it works in current mobile browsers that allow camera access. Choose the front or back camera in the Camera list after starting the camera.
Can I change the filter after taking the photos?
The filter is applied at the moment each photo is taken, so pick it before shooting. The frame, caption and date can be changed afterwards and the strip updates straight away.
