Hide faces, license plates, names or screens in a video. Draw rectangles or ellipses, move them at different moments so they follow the subject, let automatic face detection find faces for you, or blur the whole background. Everything is processed on your own device, so the video you want to anonymize is never uploaded.

Drag on the picture to draw an area. Move or resize it at another moment to add a keyframe: the area glides between keyframes to follow a moving face or plate.

How to use the Blur Video
Choose a video by dropping it on the box or clicking to browse.
Drag on the picture to draw a rectangle or ellipse over what you want to hide. Pick Blur, Pixelate or Solid box and the strength.
Follow movement: seek to a later moment and drag the area to the new position. Repeat where the subject changes direction.
Or press Find faces to detect and track faces automatically, then untick any you want to keep visible.
Press Create blurred video, keep the tab open while it renders, then press Download video.
Blur, pixelate or solid box: which to use
Effect
Looks like
Best for
How strong to go
Blur
Soft, out-of-focus patch that blends in
Faces of bystanders, backgrounds, brand logos
60 or more for faces; the radius grows with video height
Pixelate
Large square blocks, the classic "censored" look
Faces in news-style videos, small details
Blocks should be at least a third of the face width
Solid box
Opaque black shape
License plates, documents, phone and computer screens, names

How keyframes work
Each area stores its position and size at one or more moments (keyframes). Between two keyframes the position is interpolated linearly: at a time t between keyframes at t₁ and t₂, the area is at p = p₁ + (p₂ − p₁) × (t − t₁) ÷ (t₂ − t₁). Before the first and after the last keyframe the area stays still. The diamonds on the seek bar show the keyframes of the selected area.
Pause at the moments where the subject changes direction or speed and move the area there; for walking people one keyframe every 1 to 2 seconds is usually enough.
Make the area a little bigger than the subject so small timing errors don't reveal an edge.
Use Visible from and Visible until to show an area only while the subject is in the picture.
Select an area and use the arrow keys (Shift for bigger steps) to nudge it precisely; Delete removes it.
Privacy tips before you post
Check reflections in windows, mirrors and glasses, and names on badges, mail or screens.
Remember the soundtrack: names spoken aloud are not hidden by blurring. Untick Keep the original sound or use a mute tool if needed.
Play the finished video once from start to end before sharing: automatic detection can miss a face for a moment.
Frequently asked questions
How do I blur a moving face or object in a video?
Draw an area over it at the start, then seek to a later moment and drag the area to where the face has moved. Every move at a new time adds a keyframe, and the area slides smoothly between keyframes. Add keyframes wherever the subject changes speed or direction, and play the preview to check that it stays covered.
How does the automatic face blur work?
Find faces samples the video (5 or 10 times per second, or every frame), runs Google's MediaPipe face detector on each sample on your device, and links the detections into tracks so each face is followed between samples. Each face is covered with an ellipse that you can enlarge with Extra margin. The detector is tuned for faces that are reasonably close to the camera, so very small, distant or side-on faces can be missed; cover those with a manual area.
Is blurring or pixelating more secure?
For hiding identity, use a strong blur or a solid box. Light blur and large-block pixelation can sometimes be partly reversed or recognised, especially for text and license plates. A Solid box removes the information completely, which is the safest choice for documents, screens and plates.
Can I blur the background and keep one person sharp?
Yes. Draw an area around the person, tick Blur everything except the areas and set the background strength. Add keyframes if the person moves. Detected faces are also kept sharp in this mode.
Why does saving take as long as the video?
The browser plays the video in real time, draws every frame with the blur applied, and records the result with the MediaRecorder API, so a 1 minute video takes about 1 minute. Keep the tab visible while it renders, or frames may be skipped.
Which formats can I save?
MP4 with H.264 in Chrome, Edge and Safari, and WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. If your browser cannot record MP4, the WebM option is used. The original sound is kept unless you untick it.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Decoding, face detection, blurring and encoding all happen in your browser. Only the face detection program and its small model file are downloaded from public servers the first time you press Find faces.
