How to use the Website Traffic Goal Calculator
Pick your business model: an online store with orders, or a lead-based business.
Enter your revenue goal and whether it is per week, month or year.
Add your conversion numbers: conversion rate and order value, or lead rate, close rate and deal value.
Optionally enter current traffic and growth to see the gap and the time to reach the goal.
Press Calculate traffic goal and check the table to see how better conversion lowers the traffic you need.
Traffic goal formulas
Online store: visitors = revenue goal ÷ average order value ÷ conversion rate
Lead-based: visitors = revenue goal ÷ deal value ÷ close rate ÷ visitor-to-lead rate
Revenue per visitor = revenue ÷ visitors = conversion rate × average order value
Months to reach goal = ln(visitors needed ÷ current visitors) ÷ ln(1 + monthly growth rate)
Example: 6,000 visitors today, 12,500 needed and 8% monthly growth gives ln(2.083) ÷ ln(1.08) ≈ 9.5, so about 10 months.

Ways to need less traffic
Raise average order value with bundles, free-shipping thresholds and relevant add-ons.
Improve conversion: faster pages, clear pricing, trust signals, a shorter checkout or form.
Bring buyers back with email; returning visitors usually convert better than first-time ones.
Target intent: search traffic for product or problem keywords tends to convert better than broad awareness traffic.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate how much website traffic I need?
Divide your revenue goal by your average order value to get the orders you need, then divide orders by your conversion rate. For a $20,000 monthly goal, an $80 average order and a 2% conversion rate: 20,000 ÷ 80 = 250 orders, and 250 ÷ 0.02 = 12,500 visitors per month.
How does the lead-based calculation work?
Customers needed = revenue goal ÷ average deal value; leads needed = customers ÷ close rate; visitors needed = leads ÷ visitor-to-lead rate. A $30,000 goal with $3,000 deals, a 25% close rate and a 2% lead rate needs 10 customers, 40 leads and 2,000 visitors.
What is a good ecommerce conversion rate?
Many online stores convert somewhere around 1% to 3% of sessions, but it varies widely by industry, price point, device and traffic source. Returning visitors and email traffic usually convert far better than cold social traffic, so use your own analytics where possible.
What is revenue per visitor?
Revenue per visitor (RPV) is revenue divided by visitors. It combines conversion rate and order value into one number and tells you roughly how much each visit is worth, which helps when judging the cost of paid traffic.
Should I focus on more traffic or better conversion?
Both multiply together. Doubling your conversion rate halves the traffic you need, which is often cheaper than doubling traffic. The sensitivity table shows how much the required traffic drops as conversion improves.
Are visitors the same as sessions or users?
Not exactly. Analytics tools count sessions (visits) and users (people) separately. Use the same unit for traffic and conversion rate: if your conversion rate is orders per session, enter monthly sessions as your current traffic.
