Paper sizes in points, millimetres and inches
PDF pages are measured in points, where 1 point is 1/72 inch (about 0.353 mm). The table shows the page sizes offered above in portrait orientation. Landscape simply swaps width and height.
| Page size | Millimetres | Inches | PDF points | Common use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A4 | 210 × 297 | 8.27 × 11.69 | 595 × 842 | Standard paper outside North America |
| US Letter | 215.9 × 279.4 | 8.5 × 11 | 612 × 792 | Standard paper in the US and Canada |
| US Legal | 215.9 × 355.6 | 8.5 × 14 | 612 × 1008 | Contracts and legal forms |
| A3 | 297 × 420 | 11.69 × 16.54 | 842 × 1191 | Posters, plans, large photos |
| A5 | 148 × 210 | 5.83 × 8.27 | 420 × 595 | Booklets, flyers, notebooks |
How big will my PDF be?
With the Original quality setting, each JPEG is stored byte for byte, so the PDF is roughly the total size of your images plus a few kilobytes. Ten 3 MB phone photos make a PDF of about 30 MB. If you need to email the file or upload it to a form with a size limit, choose Balanced (long side at most 2400 pixels) or Small file (at most 1600 pixels). At 1600 pixels an A4 page still prints at about 140 dots per inch, which is fine for documents and receipts. You can also shrink an existing PDF later with Compress PDF.
Tips for scanning documents with your phone
- Photograph pages on a dark, flat surface in good daylight to get sharp, even contrast.
- Name the photos in order (page-01.jpg, page-02.jpg…) and use Sort A–Z to put them in sequence instantly.
- Use A4 or Letter with a small margin so the PDF prints cleanly on standard paper.
- Need to crop the edges of a photo first? Use the Image Cropper, then come back to convert.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert multiple JPG files into one PDF?
Select or drop all the JPG files at once, drag them into the order you want and press Convert to PDF. Every image becomes one page of a single PDF file, in the order shown on screen.
Does converting JPG to PDF reduce image quality?
Not with the default Original setting. JPEG photos are placed into the PDF exactly as they are, without being re-encoded, so the image data is identical to your file. The Balanced and Small file options deliberately resize and recompress the photos to make the PDF smaller.
What page size should I choose?
A4 (210 × 297 mm) is the standard paper size in most countries, while US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) is used in the United States and Canada. Choose Same as image if the PDF will only be viewed on screen and you want each page to match the photo exactly, with no white borders.
Why are some photos from my phone sideways in other converters?
Phones often save photos unrotated and store the correct orientation in an EXIF tag. This tool reads that tag and rotates the page to match what you see in your gallery. You can still rotate any page by 90° with the rotate button.
What is the difference between Fit and Fill page?
Fit scales the image so the whole picture is visible inside the margins, which may leave white space. Fill page scales it to cover the whole printable area and trims whatever overflows, like a cover photo.
Can I convert PNG or WebP images too?
Yes. PNG images are embedded losslessly, including transparency, and WebP, GIF and BMP images are converted in your browser before being added. HEIC photos from iPhones must be converted to JPG first.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is built inside your browser with JavaScript, so your photos stay on your computer or phone and the tool keeps working even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.
