How the converter picks the right engine
File extensions can be wrong or missing, so the converter also looks at the first bytes of each file. A PDF starts with %PDF-, a PNG with a fixed eight-byte signature and a JPEG with the bytes FF D8. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and EPUB files are all ZIP archives, so the converter opens the archive and checks for word/document.xml, xl/workbook.xml, ppt/presentation.xml or an EPUB container to tell them apart. The result decides which conversions are offered for that file.

Which file types can this PDF converter handle?
To PDF: Word .docx, Excel .xlsx, PowerPoint .pptx, images (JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, BMP, SVG), text (.txt, .md, .csv, .json, .rtf), web pages (.html) and EPUB e-books. From PDF: JPG, PNG, Word .docx and plain text. Old binary .doc, .xls and .ppt files need to be saved in the newer format first.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Every conversion runs in your browser with JavaScript. The page downloads its conversion code once, but your documents never leave your device, which also makes it safe for confidential files.
Will my Word or PowerPoint file look exactly the same?
Text, headings, bold and italic, lists, tables and images are kept, and slides keep their text boxes, shapes and pictures. Exact fonts, complex layouts, charts, SmartArt and animations are not reproduced perfectly. For pixel-perfect output, export to PDF from Word or PowerPoint itself.
How does PDF to Word work?
The converter reads the text layer of each page, joins lines into paragraphs, repairs words split by hyphens, detects headings from larger font sizes and builds an editable .docx. Scanned PDFs have no text layer; use Scanned PDF to Word (OCR) for those.
What resolution should I choose for PDF to JPG?
150 dpi is good for screens, email and documents. Use 300 dpi for printing or zooming into small text, and 96 dpi for small previews. Higher resolutions make larger files: a letter page at 300 dpi is 2550 × 3300 pixels.
Can I convert several files at once?
Yes. Drop as many files as you like, choose an output for each and press Convert all. Images can be combined into a single PDF, and all results can be downloaded together as one ZIP file.
Why do some characters appear as images in the PDF?
Standard PDF fonts only cover Western European characters. When a document contains other scripts, such as Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Chinese or emoji, the converter draws the pages as high-resolution images so every character shows correctly. The text then cannot be selected.
