How to use the Excel to PDF Converter

  1. Open a file: drop an .xlsx, .xls, .ods or .csv file into the box.
  2. Pick the sheet to convert, or choose All sheets.
  3. Adjust the layout: paper, orientation, font size, gridlines and whether the first row is a header.
  4. Check the preview and flip through the pages.
  5. Press Convert to PDF to download the file.

How the table is fitted to the page

Every column first gets its natural width: the widest cell in that column at your chosen font size, plus a little padding. Very long columns are capped at 45% of the page width and their text wraps. If the table is still wider than the usable page width, Fit to page width scales everything by

scale = usable width ÷ total column width, and font size = chosen size × scale (never below 5 pt).

Example: on A4 portrait with 12 mm margins the usable width is 595.3 − 2 × 34 = 527.3 pt. A sheet whose columns add up to 700 pt at 10 pt text gets a scale of 527.3 ÷ 700 = 0.75, so the PDF uses 7.5 pt text. With orientation set to Automatic, such a wide sheet switches to landscape instead (usable width 774 pt) and keeps the full 10 pt size.

With Fit to page width turned off, columns that don't fit are moved to extra pages, so a wide sheet prints "down, then across" just like Excel's default.

Usable page width by paper size

PaperPortrait widthLandscape widthApprox. columns at 10 pt (≈80 pt each), landscape
A4527 pt (186 mm)774 pt (273 mm)9
US Letter544 pt (192 mm)724 pt (255 mm)9
Legal544 pt (192 mm)940 pt (332 mm)11
A3774 pt (273 mm)1123 pt (396 mm)14

Widths assume 12 mm margins on both sides. 1 inch = 72 pt = 25.4 mm.

Tips for cleaner spreadsheet PDFs

  • Delete helper columns or hidden scratch areas before converting; every non-empty column is included.
  • Keep a single header row. It is repeated at the top of every page so long tables stay readable.
  • Use Zebra stripes for long lists without gridlines; they make rows easier to follow across the page.
  • Convert all sheets at once with the All sheets option; each sheet starts on a new page with its name as the title.
  • CSV from other apps: comma, semicolon, tab and pipe separators are detected automatically, and quoted fields with commas or line breaks are handled correctly.

Frequently asked questions

Are my spreadsheets uploaded?

No. The workbook is read by SheetJS in your browser and the PDF is drawn by jsPDF on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can I fit a wide sheet on one page width?

Yes. With Fit to page width on, column widths and the font size are scaled down until every column fits. Below a 5 pt font, long cells wrap onto extra lines instead. Landscape or A3 paper gives more room for very wide sheets.

Are formulas, colors and charts kept?

The PDF shows the values the cells display (formula results with their number formatting), laid out as a clean table. Cell colors, merged cells, images and charts are not copied.

Which files are supported?

Excel .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlsb and older .xls files, OpenDocument .ods, and plain .csv or .tsv text files. CSV files work even without an internet connection because they are parsed by the tool itself.

Why do some numbers look different from Excel?

The converter uses each cell's formatted text, so it usually matches Excel exactly. Custom or locale-specific formats can occasionally be shown in a simpler general format.

Is there a row limit?

No fixed limit. Sheets with several thousand rows convert fine; the preview shows one page at a time and the PDF simply gets more pages.
