Whiteboard Photo to PDF
Turn phone photos of a whiteboard or blackboard into clean, readable notes. Drag the four corners onto the board to straighten it, and the tool evens out glare and shadows, turns the background white and makes the marker colors pop. Save one page as PNG or JPG, or every board as one PDF.

How to use the Whiteboard Photo to PDF
- Add photos of your whiteboard or blackboard, or take one with your phone camera (a sample is loaded to try).
- Check the corners: press Detect corners or drag the four handles onto the corners of the board.
- Choose the board type and adjust Clean-up strength and Ink color boost while watching the result.
- Add more boards if you like; reorder or remove them in the page strip.
- Download the PDF with every page, or save the current board as PNG or JPG.
How the clean-up works
Each board goes through the same three steps, all on your device:
| Step | What happens | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Perspective warp | The four corners are mapped to a rectangle with a projective transform (homography) and the photo is resampled with bilinear interpolation. | Removes the keystone shape of photos taken from the side or below. |
| 2. Background flattening | The empty-board color is estimated in a grid of tiles, smoothed, and each pixel is divided by it. | Glare spots, shadows and color casts from room lights become even white. |
| 3. Levels and color | Values near white become pure white, faint strokes are darkened with a gamma curve, and marker colors are boosted (or turned to gray). | Crisp, high-contrast notes that print cleanly and use little toner. |
Recommended settings
| Situation | Board type | Clean-up strength | Ink color boost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal whiteboard, dark markers | Whiteboard | 50–60 | 40–50 |
| Old board with ghosting from past notes | Whiteboard | 70–85 | 40 |
| Faint or nearly dry markers | Whiteboard | 80–100 | 60–80 |
| Notes for black-and-white printing | Whiteboard, Ink: black & white | 60 | – |
| Chalkboard to print | Blackboard, white background | 40–60 | 50 |
| Slides of a chalk lecture | Blackboard, keep dark board | 40 | 60 |
Tips for better board photos
- Stand back far enough to get all four corners in the frame; the corners are what the straightening needs.
- Step slightly to the side of strong reflections instead of shooting straight on; the tool fixes the angle, but it cannot recover writing hidden by glare.
- Turn off the flash. It creates a hot spot in the middle of the board and makes the edges dark.
- Hold the phone steady or brace it; sharp strokes survive the clean-up much better than motion blur.
- For a very wide board, take two overlapping photos and add both as separate pages.
Frequently asked questions
How does the glare and shadow removal work?
The tool estimates the color of the empty board in small tiles across the image, using the brightest pixels in each tile, and smooths that into a background map. Every pixel is then divided by the local background, so a bright glare patch and a dim corner both become the same white, while the darker marker strokes stay. The strength slider then pushes near-white to pure white and darkens faint strokes.
What does perspective correction do?
A photo taken at an angle turns the rectangular board into a trapezoid. When you mark the four corners, the tool computes a projective transform (a homography) that maps those corners to a true rectangle and resamples the photo, so lines that should be straight and parallel are straight and parallel again.
Can it clean blackboard or chalkboard photos?
Yes. Choose Blackboard / chalkboard. The tool estimates the dark board color instead of white and extracts the chalk. Pick White background to print the notes as dark writing on white paper, or Keep dark board for an even, clean board with bright chalk.
Why does faint marker or glare-covered writing look light?
Where glare is very strong, the camera captured almost no difference between ink and board, so there is little left to recover. Raise Clean-up strength to darken faint strokes, and next time take the photo from a slight angle to the lights and correct the perspective here.
How do I combine several boards into one PDF?
Add all the photos at once or one after another. Each becomes a page in the strip above the editor, where you can set its corners, move it left or right or remove it. Download PDF saves every page in that order with the same clean-up settings.
What resolution should I choose?
Standard (1600 px on the long side) is sharp on screen and small to share. Choose High or Maximum for printing large boards or zooming into small handwriting. The tool never enlarges a board more than 1.5 times the size it has in your photo.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything, from corner detection to the PDF, runs in your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it also works for confidential meeting notes.
