PNG to PDF
Turn PNG images, screenshots and graphics into a single PDF. Keep transparent areas transparent or fill them with white or any color, choose the image's own size or A4 and Letter pages, drag to reorder, and download. Your images never leave your device.
Drag pages to change the order (on touch screens use the ⠿ handle). Focus a page and press Alt + ←/→ to move it, R to rotate, Delete to remove.
How to use the PNG to PDF
- Add your PNG files by dropping them on the box, clicking to choose, or pasting a screenshot (Ctrl+V).
- Arrange the pages by dragging thumbnails, with the ‹ › buttons, or Sort A–Z.
- Choose page size and background: keep transparency, or fill it with white or a color. The previews show the result.
- Pick lossless or smaller-file quality and adjust margins or orientation if needed.
- Press Convert to PDF to download your PDF.
How transparency is stored in a PDF
A PNG can have an alpha channel: a fourth value for every pixel that says how opaque it is. PDF does not store PNG files directly. Instead the color pixels become an image object and the alpha channel becomes a separate grayscale soft mask (SMask) attached to it. Viewers combine the two, so transparent pixels show whatever is behind the image, which on a normal page is white paper.
| Setting | Transparent areas look | File size | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transparent + Lossless | Page color (white), alpha kept | Largest | Logos, graphics for designers, archiving |
| White + Lossless | White, filled in the PDF | Largest | Documents and screenshots for printing |
| Color + Lossless | Your chosen color | Largest | Presentations, colored backgrounds |
| Any + Smaller file | Filled with the background (white if transparent) | Much smaller | Email attachments and upload limits |
Pixels, dpi and page size
With Same as image, page size = pixels ÷ dpi inches. For example, a 2480 × 3508 px image at 300 dpi gives 8.27 × 11.69 in, exactly A4. A 1920 × 1080 screenshot at 96 dpi gives 20 × 11.25 in. Choosing a higher dpi makes the page physically smaller without changing the image itself. With A4 or Letter pages, the image is scaled to fit inside the margins and centered.
Tips
- Name files in order (step-01.png, step-02.png…) and press Sort A–Z to order pages instantly.
- For screenshots of text, keep Lossless quality: JPEG compression blurs sharp letters.
- Photos from an iPhone? Use HEIC to PDF. Mostly JPG photos? JPG to PDF stores them without re-compression.
- Huge PNG files? Shrink them first with the Image Compressor, or pick a Smaller file quality above.
Frequently asked questions
Does PNG to PDF keep transparency?
Yes. With Page background set to Transparent and Lossless quality, the alpha channel of each PNG is stored in the PDF as a soft mask, so transparent areas stay transparent. On screen and on paper they show the page color, normally white, and the image can still be placed over other content in design apps.
How do I get rid of a black or checkered background?
Some apps display transparent areas as black or as a checkerboard. Choose White or Color as the page background and the transparent parts are filled with that color in the PDF.
Will the PDF lose quality?
No, not with Lossless quality: the PNG pixels are stored without compression loss. The Smaller file options convert images to JPEG at a reduced size, which is useful for email but can blur fine text and removes transparency (it is filled with the background color or white).
What does image resolution (dpi) mean for 'Same as image'?
It sets how big the page is for a given number of pixels. At 96 dpi a 1920-pixel-wide screenshot becomes a 20-inch (508 mm) wide page, the same as on a standard screen; at 300 dpi it becomes 6.4 inches (163 mm) wide, which is print size. Pixels and quality are the same either way.
Can I combine PNG and JPG files in one PDF?
Yes. You can add JPG, WebP, GIF and BMP images alongside PNGs; each image becomes one page in the order shown.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The PDF is built by JavaScript in your browser, so your images never leave your device.
