What to put in each resume section
| Section | What recruiters look for | Tips |
|---|---|---|
| Contact | Name, email, phone, city and one link | Use a professional email address. A full street address is no longer expected. |
| Summary | Who you are and what you offer, in 2 to 4 sentences | Mention your years of experience, specialty and one standout result. |
| Experience | Recent roles in reverse chronological order | 3 to 5 achievement bullets for recent jobs, fewer for older ones. |
| Education | Degree, school and graduation year | Add GPA or honors only if they are strong and recent. |
| Skills | Hard skills and tools that match the job posting | Group them (Languages, Tools, Certifications) and mirror the wording of the posting. |
Writing bullet points that get interviews
A widely used pattern is action verb + what you did + measurable result. Compare:
- Weak: "Responsible for the company newsletter."
- Strong: "Relaunched the weekly newsletter, growing subscribers from 4,000 to 11,500 in 9 months."
Useful verbs include led, built, launched, reduced, increased, negotiated, automated, redesigned and trained. Numbers can be money, percentages, time saved, people managed or volume handled. If you can't share exact figures, approximate ones ("about 20 clients") still help.
Making your resume ATS-friendly
Many employers run applications through an applicant tracking system (ATS) that extracts text from your file. The templates here are built to parse cleanly: one reading column, standard headings (Summary, Experience, Education, Skills), real selectable text and no tables, text boxes or images. To improve your match rate, use the same job title and key terms as the posting where they honestly describe your experience, spell out abbreviations once (for example "Search Engine Optimization (SEO)"), and send a PDF unless the employer asks for Word.

Frequently asked questions
Is this resume builder really free?
Yes. You can create, edit and download as many resumes as you like without an account, payment or watermark. The PDF is generated in your browser.
Are these resume templates ATS-friendly?
Yes. All three templates use a single reading column, standard section headings, real text instead of images, and common fonts, which is what applicant tracking systems parse most reliably. Avoid putting important information only in custom section titles that a system might not recognize.
Where is my resume data stored?
Your entries are saved automatically in your browser's local storage on this device, so they are still there when you come back. Nothing is sent to a server. Use Export data to save a backup file, for example before clearing your browser or to move to another computer.
How long should a resume be?
Most recruiters expect one page for early-career candidates and up to two pages for experienced professionals. The page-break markers in the preview show where a new page starts so you can trim to fit.
How should I write the bullet points under each job?
Start each line with a strong action verb, describe what you achieved rather than your duties, and add numbers where you can, such as 'Cut onboarding time by 30% by rebuilding the training program'. Three to five bullets per recent role is a common guideline.
What is the difference between Download PDF and Print?
Download PDF builds the file directly with standard PDF fonts, so it looks the same everywhere and the text is fully selectable. Print opens your browser's print dialog, where you can choose Save as PDF; use it if your resume contains characters outside Western European alphabets, which the standard PDF fonts cannot display.
Should I include a photo on my resume?
In the US, UK and Canada photos are generally left off resumes to reduce bias, and these templates follow that convention. Some countries in Europe and Asia expect a photo on a CV, in which case you can add the PDF to a layout tool afterwards.
