How to use the PDF Page Counter
Drop your PDF files onto the box or click to choose them. You can select many files at once and add more later.
Read the totals at the top: number of files, total pages, total size and printed sheets.
Check each file in the table: page count, paper size, orientation and file size. Click a column header to sort.
Export the results with Download CSV, or copy a short summary to paste into an email or invoice.
Remove a file with its × button, or press Clear list to start over.
Standard PDF page sizes
PDF page dimensions are stored in points: 1 point = 1/72 inch = 0.3528 mm. The counter reads each page's visible box and matches it to these common sizes (portrait shown; landscape is the same size turned sideways).
When you print single-sided, every page needs its own sheet, so sheets = pages. Double-sided (duplex) printing puts two pages on each sheet, and because every document starts on a new sheet, the count is rounded up per file:
Duplex sheets = Σ ⌈pages ÷ 2⌉
Example: three files with 5, 8 and 1 pages need 14 sheets single-sided and 3 + 4 + 1 = 8 sheets double-sided, not 7. If you merge the files first with Merge PDF, the 14 pages fit on 7 duplex sheets.
Common uses
Print shops and copy centres: quote jobs by page count and paper size before anything is printed.
Translators, typists and reviewers: bill per page across a whole batch of documents.
Court and application filings: check page limits and that every page is A4 or Letter as required.
Archiving and scanning projects: total up how many pages were scanned per box or folder.
How do I count the pages of multiple PDF files at once?
Select or drag all the PDF files onto the drop box. Each file is opened in your browser, its page tree is read and the page count appears in the table, while the total at the top adds up every file. There is no limit on the number of files other than your device's memory.
Can I count pages in a password-protected PDF?
Usually yes. PDF encryption protects the page contents and text, but the list of pages is still readable, so the page count and page size can be shown. Such files are marked as Encrypted in the table.
How are paper sizes detected?
The tool reads the visible page box (the CropBox, or the MediaBox when no crop is set) in PDF points, where 72 points equal 1 inch, and matches it within about 1 mm to standard sizes such as A4 (595 × 842 pt, 210 × 297 mm) and US Letter (612 × 792 pt, 8.5 × 11 in). Other sizes are shown in millimetres and inches.
How many sheets of paper do I need to print my PDFs?
Single-sided printing uses one sheet per page. Double-sided printing uses half as many, rounded up for each document separately, because a file with an odd number of pages leaves the back of its last sheet blank. The totals row shows both numbers.
Why does a file show an estimated page count?
If a PDF is damaged and cannot be fully parsed, the tool falls back to counting page objects in the raw file. That number is marked with ≈ because it may include unused or duplicate pages. Re-saving the file in a PDF viewer usually fixes it.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDFs are read with the pdf-lib library directly in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, so confidential documents stay on your computer or phone.
