Crop PDF
Trim white margins, cut away scanner edges or keep just one part of a page. Drag the crop box on a live preview or type exact measurements, then apply it to every page or only the pages you choose. The file never leaves your browser.
Drag the corners or edges of the box, drag inside it to move it, or drag on the page to draw a new crop area.
How to use the Crop PDF
- Open your PDF by dropping it on the box or clicking to choose it.
- Set the crop area: drag the handles of the box, drag on the page to draw a new one, or type the margins. Find content edges does it for you.
- Check other pages with Prev and Next. The same crop is shown on each page.
- Choose where to apply it: all pages, only the current page or a page range.
- Press Crop PDF to download the cropped file.
Common crop measurements
PDF sizes are measured in points: 72 points equal 1 inch, and 1 millimetre is about 2.835 points. Use these values when you need a page of a specific size after cropping.
| Goal | Starting page | Crop from each side | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| A4 to A5-wide strip | 210 × 297 mm | Top 74.25 mm, bottom 74.25 mm | 210 × 148.5 mm |
| Letter to 6 × 9 in book page | 8.5 × 11 in | Left/right 1.25 in, top/bottom 1 in | 6 × 9 in |
| Remove 1 inch margins | 8.5 × 11 in | 1 in on every side | 6.5 × 9 in |
| Remove 20 mm margins | 210 × 297 mm | 20 mm on every side | 170 × 257 mm |
The five page boxes in a PDF
Every PDF page can define up to five rectangles. The MediaBox is the full sheet. The CropBox is what viewers display and print, and it defaults to the MediaBox. The BleedBox, TrimBox and ArtBox are used in professional printing to describe bleed, final trimmed size and meaningful content. This tool always sets the CropBox. With the MediaBox option ticked, it sets all five boxes to the new area, so every program agrees on the new page size.
Tips for better crops
- Scanned books and slides: press Find content edges on a typical page, check a few other pages, then apply to all.
- Odd and even pages differ: crop odd pages with a range like 1,3,5,7, then open the result and crop the even pages.
- Need a standard paper size instead? Resize PDF scales the content to A4, Letter and more.
- Pages sideways? Fix them first with Rotate PDF so top, bottom, left and right match what you see.
Frequently asked questions
How do I crop a PDF page?
Open the PDF, drag the corners of the highlighted box until it covers the part you want to keep, and press Crop PDF. Everything outside the box is hidden in the saved file. You can also type exact distances to cut from the top, bottom, left and right.
Can I crop only one page of a PDF?
Yes. Go to the page with Prev and Next, set the crop, choose Current page only and press Crop PDF. To crop several specific pages, choose Pages and type a range such as 2-4, 7.
Does cropping a PDF delete the hidden content?
No. Like most PDF editors, cropping changes the visible page area (the CropBox and, if ticked, the MediaBox), but the content outside it is still stored in the file. Do not use cropping to hide confidential information. Use a redaction tool for that.
Will cropping reduce the quality of my PDF?
No. The pages are not converted to images. Only the page boundaries change, so text stays sharp, searchable and selectable at any zoom.
What is the difference between the CropBox and the MediaBox?
The MediaBox is the full physical page size. The CropBox is the region that viewers show and print. Setting only the CropBox is enough for most viewers. Also shrinking the MediaBox makes the new size stick in printers, editors and tools that ignore the CropBox.
How does Find content edges work?
The tool draws the current page, looks for the outermost pixels that are not white and sets the crop just outside them with a 4 mm safety margin. It is ideal for removing wide white margins from slides, e-books and scanned pages.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is read and cropped entirely in your browser, so the document stays on your device.
