How to use the Split PDF Pages in Half
Choose your PDF by dropping it on the box or clicking to browse.
Pick the cut direction: Vertical for side-by-side book spreads, Horizontal for pages stacked top and bottom.
Move the split line to the book's gutter by dragging it on the preview or using the slider. 50% cuts exactly in the middle.
Set the options: skip the cover or back page, split only landscape pages, or put the right half first for right-to-left books.
Press Split pages & download PDF to save the new file with twice as many pages.
How splitting a page in half works
Every PDF page has a media box and a crop box that define which part of the page is shown and printed. This tool duplicates each page that should be split and gives the copies two different boxes: one covering the left (or top) part up to the split line, the other covering the rest. Nothing is re-drawn or compressed, so the halves keep vector text, fonts and full-resolution images, and both copies share the same content in the file.

Tips for scanned books
Find the gutter. Phone and flatbed scans are rarely centered. Step through a few pages with the arrows and drag the line onto the spine so no words are cut.
Covers and fold-outs. A front cover scanned on its own should stay whole: tick Skip the first page, or tick Only split landscape pages to leave every portrait page untouched.
Reading direction. For manga and books in Arabic, Hebrew or Japanese, tick Right half first so the pages stay in reading order.
Uneven spreads. If the gutter drifts a lot between pages, split once, then trim the edges with Crop PDF.
Odd and even scans. If you scanned all left pages and all right pages into separate files instead, combine them with Alternate Merge PDF.
Frequently asked questions
How do I split a scanned book PDF into single pages?
Open the PDF, keep the cut on Vertical and press Split pages. Each two-page spread becomes a left page followed by a right page. If the spine is not centered, drag the split line on the preview to the gutter first. Tick Skip the first page if the cover was scanned on its own.
Does splitting reduce the quality of my PDF?
No. The tool does not re-render or recompress anything. Each half is the original page shown through a smaller visible area (crop and media box), so text stays selectable and images keep their full resolution.
Will the file size double?
No. Both halves point to the same page content and resources, so the output is only slightly larger than the original. The trade-off is that the hidden half of a page still exists in the file; it simply isn't displayed or printed.
What if some pages are single pages and others are spreads?
Tick Only split landscape pages. Pages that are wider than they are tall are cut in half, while portrait pages such as a cover or a fold-out are left as they are.
How do I keep the right order for manga or right-to-left books?
Tick Right half first. In books that read from right to left the right-hand page comes first, so each spread becomes the right half followed by the left half.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is opened and split entirely in your browser using the pdf-lib library, so the document never leaves your device.
