Cut a long video into several clips: equal parts, fixed lengths such as 15, 30 or 60 seconds for Stories and Status, or at the exact moments you choose. Each clip keeps its sound and is created in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Platform limits change from time to time, so check the app if a clip is rejected. Splitting a video into equal parts is the quickest way to get several files that each stay under an upload size limit.
How the parts are calculated
Equal parts: each part lasts total length ÷ number of parts. A 7:30 video in 3 parts gives three 2:30 clips.
By duration: parts start every L seconds, so you get ⌈total ÷ L⌉ clips and the last one holds the remainder. A 4:10 video split every 60 s gives four 60 s clips and one 10 s clip. With Join a very short last piece switched on, a remainder under 3 seconds is added to the previous clip instead of becoming its own file (that clip is then slightly longer than the set length). Leftovers under a quarter of a second are always joined.
At cut points: every cut ends one part and starts the next, so n cuts make n + 1 parts. Cuts closer than 0.1 s are ignored.
Tips
Untick the parts you don't need before pressing Split video; only selected parts are recorded, which saves time.
Press ▶ next to any part in the list to preview exactly that part.
Use the timeline: click or drag on it to scrub, then press Add cut here. With the timeline focused, the arrow keys move by 1 second (Shift for 10 seconds) and Enter adds a cut.
For a single section of a video, the Video Trimmer is quicker; to put clips back together, use the Video Merger.
Frequently asked questions
How do I split a long video into 60-second clips?
Choose By duration and press the 60 s preset (or type any length). The timeline shows every clip; the last one holds whatever is left over. Press Split video and download the clips individually or as a ZIP. 60 seconds is the classic Instagram Stories length, and 30 seconds suits WhatsApp Status.
How do I split a video into equal parts?
Choose Equal parts and enter how many parts you want, from 2 to 50. The length of each part is the total duration divided by the number of parts, for example a 9 minute video in 3 parts gives three 3:00 clips.
Can I split at exact times?
Yes. Choose At cut points and type times such as 0:45, 1:30.5, 2:10, or play the video and press Add cut here at each moment. Times can be written as seconds (95), minutes:seconds (1:35) or hours:minutes:seconds (1:01:35).
Why does splitting take as long as the video?
Browsers can only encode video in real time with the MediaRecorder API, so each selected part is played once in the background while it is recorded. Splitting a 5 minute video takes about 5 minutes. Untick parts you don't need to save time, and keep the tab open and visible.
Is there any quality loss?
Each clip is re-encoded, which loses a little detail. Choose High or Very high quality to keep clips close to the original. The resolution and sound are kept as they are.
Will I get MP4 or WebM files?
Chrome, Edge and Safari can record MP4, which plays almost everywhere and uploads directly to social apps. Firefox records WebM, which plays in browsers, VLC and on YouTube. The Format list only shows what your browser supports.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Everything happens on your device. The clips are created in your browser and the ZIP file is built locally, so your video never leaves your computer or phone.
