How to use the Business Days Calculator
- Choose a mode: Count business days between two dates, or Add business days to a start date.
- Pick your dates (or a start date and a number of days). Use negative numbers to count backwards.
- Set your weekend days; Saturday and Sunday are selected by default.
- Choose a country to skip its public holidays, and add any custom days off, one date per line.
- Press Calculate. The result, a breakdown and the list of holidays in the period appear below. Use Copy result to share it.
How business days are counted
The calculator walks through every date in your range. Each date is a weekend day (one of the days you marked as non-working), a holiday (a public holiday from the preset or one of your custom dates that falls on a working day), or a business day. Only the last group is counted.
Worked example: Monday 21 December 2026 to Friday 8 January 2027, both included, with US federal holidays. That is 19 calendar days. Four are weekend days (26–27 December and 2–3 January) and two are holidays on weekdays (Christmas Day on Friday 25 December and New Year's Day on Friday 1 January), leaving 13 business days.

*New Year's Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, so the US federal holiday is observed on Friday 31 December 2027.
Easter-based holidays
Several holidays move every year because they are tied to Easter: Good Friday (2 days before), Easter Monday (1 day after), Ascension Day (39 days after) and Whit Monday (50 days after). Bulgaria follows the Orthodox calendar and also observes Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.

Tips for deadlines and contracts
- Contracts and courts often say "within 10 business days of" a date. That usually means the day after the start date is day 1, so use Add business days, which never counts the start date.
- Payment and shipping estimates from banks and carriers follow their own holiday calendars. Add their extra closing days as custom holidays.
- If your company closes between Christmas and New Year, paste those dates into the custom box once. Your settings are remembered on this device.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as a business day?
A business day (working day) is any day that is not a weekend day and not a public holiday. In most countries that means Monday to Friday, excluding official holidays. You can change the weekend days if you work a different week, for example Sunday to Thursday.
Does the calculator include the start and end dates?
By default both dates are included, so Monday to Friday of the same week counts as 5 business days. Untick Include start date to count the way many deadlines work (the day after the start is day 1), or untick Include end date if the last day should not count.
How are holidays that fall on a weekend handled?
The presets follow each country's rules. US federal holidays on a Saturday are observed on the Friday before and those on a Sunday on the Monday after. The UK, Canada, Australia and Bulgaria give a substitute weekday after the weekend (Christmas and Boxing Day can push to Monday and Tuesday). Germany and France do not move holidays that fall on a weekend.
How do you calculate Easter?
Western Easter is calculated with the anonymous Gregorian algorithm, used for Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension and Whit Monday. Orthodox Easter, used for Bulgaria, is calculated with the Julian algorithm and converted to the Gregorian calendar. For 2026 that gives April 5 (Western) and April 12 (Orthodox); for 2027, March 28 and May 2.
Are state or regional holidays included?
No. The presets include national or federal holidays only. Holidays that apply only in some states, provinces or regions (for example German Länder holidays or US state holidays) can be added in the custom holidays box. Australia's King's Birthday is included but is held on a different date in Western Australia and Queensland.
How does adding business days work?
The start date is day 0. The calculator steps forward one day at a time and counts only working days, skipping weekends and holidays, until it reaches the number you entered. For example, 10 business days after Friday 20 November 2026 with US holidays is Monday 7 December 2026, because Thanksgiving on 26 November is skipped.
