How to use the Notice Period Calculator
Enter the date notice is given, such as the day you hand in your resignation letter.
Choose when counting starts: usually the day after notice is given.
Enter the notice length and pick days, weeks or months.
Pick calendar or working days and add public holidays if they should be skipped.
Read your end date, last working day and days remaining, or compare other notice lengths in the table.
How notice periods are counted
Days or weeks (calendar): last day = start day + (number of days − 1). With counting from the day after notice, 2 weeks given on Monday, March 2 runs Tuesday, March 3 to Monday, March 16.
Working days: count Monday–Friday only, skipping public holidays, until you reach the number of days (a week = 5 working days).
Months: use the corresponding date in the later month (March 15 + 1 month = April 15). If that date doesn't exist, use the last day of the month (January 31 + 1 month = February 28 or 29). When the notice day itself counts, the period ends one day earlier.

Frequently asked questions
When does a notice period start?
In most cases the notice period starts the day after notice is given, so notice handed in on Monday starts counting on Tuesday. Some contracts count the day notice is given. Check your contract or local law and pick the matching option.
How do I calculate one month's notice?
Use the corresponding date: one month's notice given on March 15 ends on April 15. If the next month has no corresponding date, the notice ends on that month's last day, e.g. one month from January 31 ends on February 28 (29 in a leap year).
What is the difference between calendar days and working days?
Calendar days include weekends and holidays, so 14 calendar days is always two weeks. Working days count only Monday to Friday, minus any public holidays you list, so 10 working days is about two weeks and 20 working days about four.
When is my last working day?
Your last working day is usually the final day of the notice period. If that day is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, your last day at work is the working day before it, although you may still be employed and paid until the end date.
How long is a typical notice period?
It depends on the country, contract and seniority. In the US, two weeks is customary for resignations in at-will employment. In the UK the legal minimum for employees is one week after one month of service, and many contracts require one to three months.
Is this legal advice?
No. The calculator does the date arithmetic. Notice rules depend on your contract, collective agreements and local law, so confirm the exact rules with your employer, HR or an employment adviser.
