Date formats around the world
The same day can be written in many ways, and the number order matters: 03/04/2026 is March 4 in the US but 3 April in the UK. When in doubt, write the month as a word or use ISO 8601.

How the week number and day of the year work
Day of the year: January 1 is day 1. Add the days of the earlier months to today's day of the month. In a leap year (divisible by 4, except century years not divisible by 400) February has 29 days, so dates from March 1 onward are one day later.
ISO week number: weeks run Monday to Sunday, and week 1 is the week with the year's first Thursday (equivalently, the week containing January 4). A year has 52 or 53 ISO weeks. The ISO week date 2026-W43-5 means the Friday of week 43.
Quarter: Q1 is January to March, Q2 April to June, Q3 July to September and Q4 October to December. Fiscal years used by companies and governments may start in a different month.
Julian Day Number: a continuous count of days used in astronomy, starting from 1 January 4713 BC (proleptic Julian calendar). It changes at noon UTC, not midnight.
Tips for writing dates
For international emails and contracts, spell the month (23 October 2026 or October 23, 2026) to avoid day/month mix-ups.
For spreadsheets, file names and code, use ISO 8601 (YYYY-MM-DD): it is unambiguous and sorts alphabetically in the right order.
In formal US writing, use a comma after the day and after the year in a sentence: "On October 23, 2026, the office closed."
For a timestamp that works across time zones, include the offset (2026-10-23T14:30:00-04:00) or use UTC with a Z.
Frequently asked questions
What is today's date?
The date at the top of this page is today's date in your own time zone, read from your device's clock. Because the date changes at midnight local time, people in different parts of the world can be on different dates at the same moment.
How do I write today's date in numbers?
In the United States the usual order is month/day/year, such as 10/23/2026. Most of Europe, Latin America and many other countries use day/month/year (23/10/2026). The international standard ISO 8601 uses year-month-day (2026-10-23), which avoids confusion and sorts correctly.
What week number is it today?
The page shows the ISO 8601 week number. ISO weeks start on Monday, and week 1 is the week that contains the year's first Thursday, so the first days of January can belong to week 52 or 53 of the previous year. Some US calendars count weeks from Sunday and may differ by one.
What day of the year is it?
The day of the year counts from 1 on January 1 to 365 on December 31, or 366 in a leap year. It is also used in the ISO ordinal date format YYYY-DDD and in some manufacturing and military date codes.
Why is the Hijri or Hebrew date different from what my calendar shows?
The Islamic date here uses the Umm al-Qura calendar computed by your browser, while many communities start months by local moon sighting, which can differ by a day. The Hebrew day begins at sunset, so after sunset the Hebrew date is already the next day.
Is the date accurate?
It comes from your device's clock and time zone settings. Phones and computers that sync with internet time are usually exact. If the date looks wrong, check the date, time and time zone settings on your device.
What is the Unix timestamp shown?
It is the number of seconds since 1 January 1970 00:00:00 UTC. It is the same everywhere in the world at a given moment and is widely used in software and databases.
