How the conversion works
The Persian year begins on 1 Farvardin (Nowruz). From there the months run 6 × 31 days, 5 × 30 days and Esfand with 29 or 30 days. To convert a Persian date to Gregorian, the calculator finds Nowruz of that year and adds days before the month + day − 1:
months 1–7: (month − 1) × 31
months 8–12: 186 + (month − 7) × 30
Example: 28 Mehr 1405 → Nowruz 1405 is March 21, 2026; Mehr is month 7, so 6 × 31 + 28 − 1 = 213 days later = October 20, 2026. Gregorian → Persian uses your browser's built-in Persian calendar (Intl).

Frequently asked questions
What is the Persian (Jalali) calendar?
The Solar Hijri calendar, also called the Jalali or Shamsi calendar, is the official calendar of Iran and Afghanistan. It is a solar calendar that starts each year at Nowruz, the March equinox, and counts years from the Hijra of 622 CE.
How many days are in each Persian month?
The first six months (Farvardin to Shahrivar) have 31 days, the next five (Mehr to Bahman) have 30 days, and Esfand has 29 days, or 30 in a leap year. That adds up to 365 or 366 days.
How do I convert a Persian year to a Gregorian year?
Add 621 for dates from Nowruz (about March 21) to December 31, and add 622 for dates from January 1 to Nowruz. For example, 1 Farvardin 1405 is in March 2026, while 1 Dey 1405 is in December 2026 and 1 Bahman 1405 is in January 2027.
When is Nowruz?
Nowruz is 1 Farvardin, the day of the March equinox as observed in Tehran, usually March 20 or 21. If the equinox happens after noon Tehran time, the new year starts the next day.
How are Persian leap years decided?
Leap years are set astronomically: a year is a leap year when the following Nowruz falls 366 days later. This happens 8 times in about every 33 years. The converter uses the Persian calendar built into your browser to find them.
What is the first day of the Persian week?
The Persian week starts on Saturday (Shanbeh) and ends on Friday (Jomeh), which is the weekend day in Iran. The weekday is shown in English, in transliteration and in Persian.
