International women's dress size chart
Women's numeric sizes follow fixed offsets in most size charts: UK and AU = US + 4, EU (German) = US + 30, French = US + 32, Italian = US + 36 and Japanese = US + 3.
| US | UK / AU | EU | FR | IT | JP | Letter | Bust (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 6 | 32 | 34 | 38 | 5 | XS | 82.5 |

| 16 | 20 | 46 | 48 | 52 | 19 | XL | 105 |
Men's suit, shirt and pants conversions
- Suits and jackets: US and UK sizes are the chest in inches. EU, Italian and French sizes are the chest size + 10, so a 40 jacket is an EU 50. Australian suits use 87, 92, 97… (chest 34, 36, 38…).
- Dress shirts: sized by collar (neck) circumference. Multiply inches by 2.54 and round: 15 in ≈ 38 cm, 15.5 in ≈ 39 cm, 16 in ≈ 41 cm.
- Pants and jeans: US, UK and AU use the waist in inches (W32). EU and Italian trouser sizes are about waist + 16 (W32 = 48), French about waist + 10 (W32 = 42).
How to measure for clothing
Use a soft tape measure, stand relaxed and keep the tape snug but not tight. Bust or chest: around the fullest part, under the arms. Waist: around the narrowest part of your torso or where you wear your pants. Hips: around the fullest part of the hips and seat. Neck: around the base of the neck with one finger under the tape. For children, measure height without shoes against a wall.
If you are between two sizes, pick the larger one for a relaxed fit or check whether the garment is stretchy. Vanity sizing means the same label can fit very differently between brands, so the brand's own measurement chart always wins.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert US women's sizes to UK sizes?
Add 4 to the US dress size. A US 8 is a UK 12, and a US 12 is a UK 16. Australian sizes generally follow the UK numbers.
What is a US size 8 in European sizes?
A women's US 8 is about EU 38 (German and Scandinavian sizing), French 40 and Italian 44. Italian sizes run about 6 above EU sizes, and French about 2 above.
How do men's suit sizes convert to European sizes?
European (EU, Italian and French) men's suit sizes are the US or UK chest size in inches plus 10. A US 40 jacket is an EU 50.
Are men's shirt sizes the same everywhere?
Dress shirts are sized by neck circumference: inches in the US and UK, and centimeters in Europe and Japan. A 15.5 inch collar is about 39 cm.
How are kids' clothes sized in Europe?
European kids' sizes are the child's height in centimeters, usually in 6 cm steps such as 98, 104, 110 and 116. Japan uses height in 10 cm steps.
Why do my sizes differ between brands?
There is no binding international standard, and many brands use vanity sizing or their own fit. The conversions here are approximate typical values, so always check the brand's own measurements, especially when ordering from another country.
