Convert UTM coordinates (WGS84) to latitude and longitude. Enter the zone, hemisphere, easting and northing to get decimal degrees, degrees-minutes-seconds and decimal minutes with a map preview, or paste a CSV list for batch conversion.

How to use the UTM to Lat Long Converter
Enter the zone number (e.g. 18 for 18T) and choose the hemisphere.
Type the easting and northing in metres.
Choose decimal places for the degrees (6 ≈ 11 cm).
Press Convert to Lat Long and use the map links to check the point.
For a list, switch to Batch CSV, paste one coordinate per line (zone+letter, easting, northing), say how the letter should be read, then download the CSV.
How UTM to lat long conversion works
Remove the false origins: x = easting − 500,000 m, and in the southern hemisphere y = northing − 10,000,000 m.
Divide by the scale factor 0.9996 and the rectifying radius of the WGS84 ellipsoid to get normalized grid coordinates.
Apply the inverse series to get the conformal latitude, then the geodetic latitude, and the longitude offset from the central meridian (zone × 6 − 183°).
Example: 56H, easting 334,900.57, northing 6,252,288.75 (southern hemisphere). Zone 56's central meridian is 153°E. The inverse projection gives −33.856800, 151.215300, i.e. 33° 51′ 24.48″ S, 151° 12′ 55.08″ E (Sydney Opera House).

Troubleshooting
Point lands in the wrong country? The zone or hemisphere is usually wrong. A point in the wrong hemisphere ends up roughly 90° of latitude away.
Easting looks too big or small? Eastings far outside 166,000–834,000 m suggest swapped easting and northing, or a value in feet instead of metres.
Different datum? These results are WGS84. UTM coordinates based on NAD27, ED50 or another local datum need a datum shift that can be tens to hundreds of metres.
Six decimal places of a degree is about 11 cm, which is more than enough for consumer GPS data.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert UTM to latitude and longitude?
Subtract the 500,000 m false easting (and the 10,000,000 m false northing in the southern hemisphere), then apply the inverse transverse Mercator projection on the WGS84 ellipsoid around the zone's central meridian (zone × 6 − 183°), with scale factor 0.9996. The tool does this with the Krüger series.
Do I need the hemisphere?
Yes. The same easting and northing exist in both hemispheres because southern northings include a 10,000,000 m offset. Without the hemisphere or latitude band, a point could be on either side of the equator.
Is 18S a hemisphere or a latitude band?
It depends on the source. In MGRS-style references the letter is a latitude band, and band S covers 32–40°N, so it is in the northern hemisphere. Some GIS software writes N or S for the hemisphere instead. In batch mode you can choose which interpretation to use.
What range should easting and northing be in?
Eastings within a zone run from about 166,000 to 834,000 m at the equator (narrower near the poles), centred on 500,000. Northings run from 0 at the equator to about 9,330,000 m at 84°N, and from 10,000,000 m down to about 1,100,000 m at 80°S.
How do I convert decimal degrees to DMS?
Keep the whole degrees, multiply the fraction by 60 for minutes, and multiply the remaining fraction of a minute by 60 for seconds. For example 40.748817° = 40° 44′ 55.74″.
What format does batch mode accept?
One coordinate per line with zone and letter, easting and northing, for example 18T 585651 4511369 or 18,N,585651,4511369. An optional label can come first (Office, 18T, 585651, 4511369). Lines that cannot be read are listed with the reason.
