Tips for beating boredom
Commit to the first idea for ten minutes. Getting started is the hardest part; most activities become fun once you are into them.
Mix screen-free and active ideas. Alternating a creative task with a short walk or stretch keeps energy up on long days at home.
Make a bored jar. Save your favorite ideas, copy the list and write each on a slip of paper so kids can draw one when they need it.
Turn it into a challenge. Set a timer, add a small prize or let each person pick the next filter to keep group activities exciting.
Frequently asked questions
What can I do when I am bored at home?
Try something creative or active that takes a set amount of time: build a blanket fort, bake cookies, learn three card tricks, start a sketchbook, have a living-room dance party or do a jigsaw puzzle. Set the filter to Indoors and Free for more ideas.
Are the activities free?
Most are. About two thirds of the ideas cost nothing, and many others need only cheap household items. Choose Free or Free or cheap in the cost filter to hide paid outings like bowling or theme parks.
Are the ideas suitable for kids?
Every idea is family friendly. Choose Kids to see activities suited to children, or Whole family for ideas that work for kids, teens and adults together. Young children should always have an adult nearby for cooking, crafts and outdoor trips.
How does the generator pick an activity?
It filters the built-in list by your settings and shuffles the matches with your browser's secure random number generator. Each idea is shown once before any repeats, so you can browse the whole set by pressing Generate.
Where are my saved ideas stored?
Saved ideas are stored in your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded, and you can clear the list at any time.
Why do I see No activities match?
The filters are too narrow, for example Outdoors, Just me, Free and 15 minutes for adults. Widen the time or cost setting, or set Who to Solo or group.
