Tips for beating food decision fatigue

    • Decide the limits, not the dish. Choosing "quick vegetarian dinner" is easy; the wheel handles the rest.
    • Use the first spin as a gut check. If you feel disappointed by the result, that tells you what you actually want.
    • Exclude what you ate this week. Taking a cuisine off the wheel keeps meals varied.
    • Let groups vote with one spin. Agree in advance to accept the result, or allow one re-spin each.
    • Check the cupboard. Budget-tagged dishes are built on staples many kitchens already have: rice, beans, eggs, pasta, tinned tomatoes and onions.

    Dish counts by meal type

Every dish is tagged with the meals it suits, so many appear in more than one list. Dinner has the widest choice, while breakfast focuses on egg dishes, porridges, flatbreads and street-food classics from around the world. Snacks include dips, dumplings, pastries and sweet treats such as churros, hotteok and mango sticky rice.

    Frequently asked questions

How does the random food picker decide?

First the wheel picks one of the cuisines that has at least one dish matching your meal and preferences, with every cuisine on the wheel having an equal chance. Then it picks one matching dish from that cuisine at random.

What should I eat for dinner when I can't decide?

Set the meal to Dinner, add any must-haves such as Quick or Budget, and spin. If the first idea doesn't appeal, press Get another dish to stay with the same cuisine, or spin again for a new one.

Can I get only vegetarian or vegan ideas?

Yes. Tick Vegetarian or Vegan and only meat-free dishes are used. Vegan also ticks Vegetarian. Many traditional dishes have variations, so always check ingredients if you have an allergy or strict diet.

What counts as quick, budget or healthy?

Quick dishes can usually be made in about 30 minutes or less. Budget dishes rely on low-cost staples such as rice, beans, eggs, pasta and seasonal vegetables. Healthy dishes are lighter, vegetable-rich or lean options. These are general guides, not nutrition advice.

    Is the pick really random?

Yes. The picker uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so no cuisine or dish is favoured, and the wheel's spin is only the animation of a choice that is already fair.
