How to use the Random Movie Picker
- Choose genres by tapping the chips, or leave them all off to include every genre.
- Set a decade and a runtime if you only have a couple of hours or fancy a classic.
- Press Pick a movie. The curtain closes, the reel spins and a film is revealed with its year, runtime, genres and a one-line description.
- Already seen it? Press Seen it, pick again. It is remembered and skipped next time.
- Like the pick? Press + Watchlist to save it, then use Pick from watchlist on movie night.

| 1970s | 12 |
| 1980s | 22 |
| 1990s | 43 |

Tips for ending the "what should we watch" debate
- Agree on the filters first. Everyone gets to veto one genre, then nobody can complain about the pick.
- Use the three-pick rule. Press Pick a movie three times and vote between those three films only.
- Build a shared watchlist. Add films during the week, then choose Pick from watchlist on movie night.
- Check the runtime. A 90-minute film started at 10pm is a much easier sell than a three-hour epic.
Frequently asked questions
How does the random movie picker work?
It filters a built-in list of 217 popular films by your genre, decade and runtime choices, removes the films you have marked as seen, and picks one at random using your browser's secure random number generator. The same film is never picked twice in a row.
What movie should I watch tonight?
Start with your mood: pick Comedy or Animation for something light, Thriller or Mystery for suspense, or Drama for something moving. Set the runtime to Short if it is already late, then press Pick a movie. If the pick does not appeal, press it again until one clicks.
Does it tell me where to stream the film?
No. Streaming catalogues change often and differ by country, so the picker focuses on choosing the film. Search the title on your streaming service or a local listings site to find where it is available.
Where is my watchlist saved?
Your watchlist, seen list and genre choices are saved in your browser's local storage on this device only. Nothing is uploaded, and clearing your browser data removes them.
What does Match all chosen genres do?
By default a film needs at least one of the chosen genres. With Match all ticked, it must have every chosen genre, so Animation plus Musical returns only animated musicals.
Can I suggest a film for the list?
The list is a curated selection of widely known films so that picks are easy to find. Use the watchlist to keep your own shortlist from the films included.
