How to use the Arrow Symbols
Copy a common arrow: click → ← ↑ ↓ ⇒ ➜ ↔ or ↻ in the top row; it goes straight to your clipboard.
Narrow it down: pick a direction tab and a style, or search words like “double”, “curved”, “refresh” or a code such as 21D2.
Copy the arrow or its code: click an arrow to copy it, then click any code in the details panel (HTML, CSS, LaTeX…) to copy that instead.
Learn the shortcut: open “How to type” and pick Windows, Word, Mac, Google Docs, phone or HTML for exact steps.
Make a long arrow: choose a line, head, direction and length in the Long arrow maker and press Copy arrow.

Where the arrows live in Unicode
Arrows are spread over several Unicode blocks. The basic Arrows block (U+2190–U+21FF) holds the everyday ones and the keyboard symbols ⇧ ⇥ ↵, and nearly every font supports it. Supplemental Arrows-A (U+27F0–U+27FF) adds long arrows such as ⟶ and ⟹, and Supplemental Arrows-B (U+2900–U+297F) holds math arrows and harpoons. The Dingbats block (U+2794–U+27BF) contains bold decorative arrows like ➔ ➜ ➤ that are popular in bios and bullet lists. The newest ones, in Miscellaneous Symbols and Arrows (U+2B00–U+2BFF) and Supplemental Arrows-C (U+1F800–U+1F8FF), came from Wingdings-style icon fonts and need a recent font to show up.
Tips for using arrows well
Steps and flows: “Sign up → Verify email → Start” reads cleanly with the thin → and spaces on both sides.
Math and logic: use ⇒ for “implies”, ⇔ for “if and only if”, ↦ for “maps to” and ⟶ for limits or functions.
Chemistry: → marks a one-way reaction and ⇌ a reversible reaction at equilibrium.
Keyboard shortcuts: ⇧ is Shift, ⇥ is Tab, ↵ is Return/Enter and ⇪ is Caps Lock.
Trends: ↑ ↓ or ↗ ↘ next to a number show a rise or fall; pair them with the word or a sign (+4%) so the meaning survives if the arrow does not display.
Web pages: mark decorative arrows with aria-hidden="true" so screen readers do not announce “rightwards arrow” in the middle of a link.
Frequently asked questions
How do I copy and paste an arrow symbol?
Click the arrow you want on this page and it is copied to your clipboard. Then paste it with Ctrl+V on Windows, Cmd+V on a Mac, or long-press and Paste on a phone. Arrows are ordinary Unicode text, so they work in documents, emails, chats, spreadsheets, social media bios and code.
What are the Alt codes for arrows?
On Windows, hold Alt and type on the numeric keypad: Alt+26 for →, Alt+27 for ←, Alt+24 for ↑, Alt+25 for ↓, Alt+29 for ↔, Alt+18 for ↕ and Alt+23 for ↨. Alt+16 and Alt+17 give the pointers ► and ◄, and Alt+30 and Alt+31 give ▲ and ▼. Other arrows have no Alt code, so copy them or use Word’s code then Alt+X.
How do I type an arrow in Word or Google Docs?
Word’s AutoCorrect turns --> into a right arrow and ==> into a double arrow by default, and you can type a hex code such as 2192 followed by Alt+X for →. Google Docs replaces -> with → and => with ⇒ as you type, and Insert > Special characters > Arrows lists the rest.
What is the HTML code for a right arrow?
Use → or → (hex →) for →. The left arrow ← is ←, up ↑ is ↑, down ↓ is ↓, both ways ↔ is ↔ and the double arrow ⇒ is ⇒ (⇒). In CSS use content: "\2192".
What is the difference between → and ⇒?
→ (U+2192, rightwards arrow) is the general-purpose arrow for directions, steps and “leads to”. ⇒ (U+21D2, rightwards double arrow) is used mainly in logic and math, where it means “implies”; ⇔ means “if and only if”. In everyday writing either works, but ⇒ looks heavier.
Why do some arrows show as empty boxes?
Your current font has no drawing for that character. The basic arrows (U+2190 to U+21FF) are in almost every font, but newer ones from the Supplemental Arrows-C and Miscellaneous Symbols and Arrows blocks need recent fonts such as Segoe UI Symbol, Noto Sans Symbols 2 or Apple Symbols. If a reader might lack the font, stick to the common arrows.
Why does my arrow turn into a colorful emoji?
Some arrows, including ↔ ↕ ↩ ↪ ⤴ ⤵ ▶ ◀ and ⬆ ➡ ⬇ ⬅, also have an emoji form, and phones often display them in color. Adding the invisible text variation selector U+FE0E after the arrow asks for the plain style; arrows like → ⇒ and ➜ have no emoji form and always stay as text.
