How to use the Heart Symbols

  1. Copy a popular heart: click ♥, ❤, ♡, ❥, 💕 or ❤️ in the top row. It is copied to your clipboard right away.
  2. Find a specific heart: open a group (Colored hearts, Decorative, Kaomoji…) or search for a color, a word like “broken” or a code like 2665.
  3. Get its code: the details panel shows Unicode, HTML, CSS and other codes; click any code to copy it.
  4. Learn to type it: choose Windows, Word, Mac, Google Docs, phone or HTML under “How to type”.

Tips for using heart symbols

  • Text hearts vs emoji: ♥ ♡ ❥ are text characters that follow your font and color, so they suit minimal bios and printed designs. Emoji hearts like ❤️ 💕 are colorful pictures drawn by each platform and look slightly different on iPhone, Android and Windows.
  • Keep it plain on phones: if ♥ turns into a red emoji you did not want, copy the “text style” ♥︎ version, which carries an invisible variation selector.
  • Combos are several characters: decorations like ʚ♡ɞ or ꒰♡꒱ are built from ordinary letters and brackets of other scripts. They count as several characters toward length limits, and some username fields reject them.
  • New hearts need new devices: before using 🩷 🩵 🩶 or ❤️‍🔥 in something important, remember that people on older phones may see an empty box or two separate emoji.
  • Screen readers: every heart is read aloud by name, so a row of ten hearts becomes ten spoken words. Use them sparingly in public posts.

What is the Alt code for a heart?

What is the difference between ♥, ❤ and ❤️?

♥ (U+2665) is the black heart suit from playing cards and ❤ (U+2764) is a bolder Dingbats heart; both are text and take the color of the surrounding text. ❤️ is ❤ followed by U+FE0F, which asks for the red emoji. Many phones show ♥ and ❤ as emoji anyway; adding U+FE0E (♥︎) keeps the text look.

How do I make a heart symbol red?

Text hearts like ♥, ❤ and ♡ follow the text color, so select them and change the font color to red in Word, Google Docs or CSS (color: red). Emoji hearts such as ❤️ 💖 or 🩷 have fixed colors that cannot be changed with font color, so pick the emoji in the color you want.

Why does a heart show as a box or question mark?

The device or font has no drawing for that character. Very new emoji such as 🩷 pink, 🩵 light blue and 🩶 grey hearts (Emoji 15.0, 2022) do not appear on older phones, and rare text symbols like 🎔 or the playing-card hearts need fonts that include them. ♥ ♡ ❤ and ❤️ display almost everywhere.

Is ღ a real heart symbol?

Not officially. ღ is the Georgian letter “ghan” (U+10E6), but its rounded shape looks like a hand-drawn heart, so people have used it as a decorative heart in nicknames and bios for years. It copies and pastes like any other letter.
