Type a word or phrase and turn it into vertical text that reads top to bottom: a single column with one character per line, or several columns side by side, arranged left to right or right to left like traditional Chinese and Japanese. Copy it straight into a post, bio, comment or chat.

Pick a layout: one column, a column per word, a column per line, or a fixed number of characters per column.
Choose the column order: left to right, or right to left for a traditional East Asian look.
Keep full-width letters on if the columns need to line up in apps such as Instagram or Discord.
Click Copy text and paste the vertical text wherever you need it.

Why full-width characters keep columns straight
Normal letters are proportional: "W" is about three times wider than "i". When several columns sit side by side, every row has different letters, so the columns zig-zag. Unicode's full-width forms (U+FF01 to U+FF5E), originally made for mixing Latin letters with Chinese and Japanese text, give every letter, digit and symbol the same width as a CJK character, and the ideographic space (U+3000) fills empty cells with that same width. The result lines up in nearly every app and font.
Tips
Keep it short. Two to four words make the best vertical banners.
Use fixed height to wrap a long phrase into a block, for example 5 characters per column (spaces are left out so the block stays solid).
Turn on the dot filler if an app removes the spacing in empty cells.
Combine with other tools: generate fancy or mirrored text first, then stack it vertically.
Frequently asked questions
How does vertical text work?
Vertical text is ordinary text with a line break after every character. In multi-column layouts, each line contains one character from every column, separated by spaces, so the words read from top to bottom when you look down each column.
Why do my columns look crooked after pasting?
Most apps use proportional fonts in which an i is narrower than an M, so columns drift. Keep "Use full-width letters" switched on: full-width characters (A, B, C) all have the same width, so the columns stay straight in almost any font. Some apps also trim repeated spaces; the dot filler option avoids that.
What does right to left mean here?
In traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean vertical writing, columns are read from top to bottom and the columns go from right to left. Choose "Right to left" to arrange the first word in the rightmost column. The letters within each column still read top to bottom.
Where can I use vertical text?
Anywhere that accepts line breaks: Instagram captions and bios, Discord and WhatsApp messages, Facebook posts, YouTube comments, documents and image editors. Single-line fields such as many usernames remove line breaks, so vertical text will not work there.
Can I make a single word stack vertically?
Yes. Choose "One column" to put each character of your text on its own line. Spaces are skipped by default; untick the option to keep a blank line between words.
Is vertical text accessible?
Screen readers read vertical text one character at a time, which is hard to follow. Use it for short decorative words and keep important information in normal text.
