Upside Down Text Generator
Type normal text and get ʇxǝʇ uʍop ǝpᴉsdn that you can paste into Instagram, Discord, TikTok and chats. Switch modes to flip without reversing, or paste flipped text to read it normally again.

Upside down alphabet chart
These are the Unicode characters this generator uses. Copy them individually if you want to build upside-down text by hand.

Worked example
Take the word Hello!. Flipping each character gives Hǝꞁꞁo¡. Reversing the order then gives ¡oꞁꞁǝH, which is what the default mode outputs. Turn your phone around and it reads "Hello!" again. In Flip only mode you get Hǝꞁꞁo¡, and pasting ¡oꞁꞁǝH into Reverse back to normal returns Hello!.
Notice that some letters are simply swapped with their partners: b and q, d and p, n and u, 6 and 9, M and W. That is why upside-down text is partly readable even without special characters.
Tips for using flipped text
- Keep it short. A flipped name, a short caption or a punchline works best. Long paragraphs are tiring to read.
- Check the character count. Flipped text has the same number of characters as the original, but some apps weigh unusual Unicode symbols differently, so leave a little room under limits such as X posts or Instagram bios.
- Test the font. Paste the text in a draft first: rare symbols such as ꓭ or ⅁ may appear as empty boxes on older phones.
- Not for passwords or links. Look-alike characters are different characters, so flipped URLs and passwords will not work.
Frequently asked questions
How does upside down text work?
There is no upside-down font in Unicode. Instead, each letter is swapped for a character from another alphabet or symbol set that looks like it rotated 180°, for example ɐ for a, ǝ for e and ∀ for A. The order of the characters is then reversed so the text reads correctly when the screen is turned around.
What is the difference between Upside down and Flip only?
Upside down flips the characters and reverses their order, like rotating a piece of paper. Flip only swaps the characters but keeps the original order, so the text still runs left to right with upside-down letters.
Can I turn upside down text back to normal?
Yes. Choose Reverse back to normal and paste the flipped text. The decoder maps each upside-down character back to its normal letter and restores the order. It also understands common alternatives other generators use, such as ן or ʃ for l.
Why do some letters look slightly different or stay the same?
Symmetrical characters such as o, s, x, z, H, I, N, O, S, X, Z and 0 and 8 look the same when rotated, so they stay unchanged. A few letters such as Q and G have no perfect rotated twin, so the closest available look-alike is used.
Will upside down text work on Instagram and Discord?
Yes. The result is ordinary Unicode text, so it works in Instagram bios and captions, Discord messages, TikTok, X, WhatsApp, Facebook and most other apps. Some games and username fields only allow basic letters and may reject it.
Is upside down text bad for accessibility?
Screen readers read these characters by their real names, so flipped text can be confusing or unreadable for people who use them. Use it for fun, short decorations rather than important information.
