How to use the Emoji Picker
- Browse or search: pick a category tab or type a word such as heart, cat or flag into the search box.
- Choose a skin tone if you want one. Hands and people emoji switch to that tone instantly.
- Click an emoji. It is copied to your clipboard and added to the compose box at the top.
- Build a message: type text between emoji in the compose box, use Delete last to undo, then press Copy text.
- Paste it into Instagram, WhatsApp, Discord, an email or any document with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac, long-press on phones).

How emoji are built
Many emoji are not a single character. The picker copies the complete sequence so the emoji stays intact when you paste it:
- Skin tones: a base emoji plus one of five modifiers, e.g. 👍 + 🏽 = 👍🏽.
- ZWJ sequences: several emoji joined by the invisible Zero Width Joiner (U+200D), e.g. 👩 + ZWJ + 💻 = 👩💻. A system that does not know the combination shows the parts side by side.
- Flags: two regional indicator letters, e.g. 🇯 + 🇵 = 🇯🇵.
- Keycaps: a digit, the variation selector U+FE0F and U+20E3, e.g. 1️⃣.
- Variation selector: U+FE0F after symbols such as ❤ asks for the colorful emoji style instead of a plain text symbol.

Tips for using emoji
- Search works with keywords, not just names: love finds hearts and kisses, money finds 💰 💸 🤑.
- Press Enter in the search box to copy the best match without touching the mouse.
- Use emoji to support your words, not replace them. Screen readers read each emoji's name aloud, so a row of ten emoji is read as ten names.
- Switch the click action to Add to my text only to build a long emoji string without overwriting your clipboard every time.
Frequently asked questions
How do I copy and paste an emoji?
Click the emoji. It is copied to your clipboard right away (a small message confirms it). Then paste it wherever you want with Ctrl+V on Windows, Cmd+V on a Mac, or long-press and Paste on a phone.
Why do some emoji look different on my phone or computer?
Emoji are Unicode characters, and every platform (Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, WhatsApp, X) draws them with its own artwork. The code is the same, so the meaning is the same, but the picture varies. Very new emoji may show as an empty box on older systems that do not have them yet.
How do skin tones work?
Emoji like 👋 can be followed by one of five Fitzpatrick skin tone modifiers (U+1F3FB to U+1F3FF). When you pick a tone, the picker adds the modifier to every emoji that supports it. Emoji without tone support, such as faces and animals, stay unchanged.
Where are flag emoji and why do flags not show on Windows?
Flags are in the last tab (🏁). Country flags are pairs of regional indicator letters, for example 🇩🇪 is D + E. Windows does not draw country flags in its emoji font, so you see two letters instead, but the flag appears correctly once pasted on phones, Mac and most apps.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for emoji?
Yes. On Windows press Win + . (period), on a Mac press Ctrl + Cmd + Space, and on most phones tap the smiley key on the keyboard. This picker is handy when you need search by keyword, skin tones for many emoji at once, codes or a full message to copy.
Are my recent emoji saved?
Yes, the last 40 emoji you copied or added are stored in your browser's local storage on this device only. Clearing your browser data removes them.
How do I use an emoji in HTML?
Select the emoji and press Copy HTML code to get its numeric character reference, for example 😀 for 😀. You can also paste the emoji itself into a UTF-8 page.
