Find the hidden equation in six guesses. Each guess must be a true 8-character equation such as 12+46=58; the tiles then show which digits and symbols are in the right place, in the wrong place, or not used at all.

Rules
Every guess must be a true equation exactly 8 characters long, using 0–9, + − × ÷ and one =.
The right side of = must be a single whole number. Normal order of operations applies: × and ÷ before + and −.
No leading zeros (write 7, not 07), no negative numbers on their own, and at least one operation on the left.
Green = right character, right place. Purple = in the equation, wrong place. Grey = not in the equation (or no more copies).

How to use the Math Equation Guess Game
Choose Daily puzzle or Unlimited at the top.
Type a true equation that fills all 8 boxes, for example 9*8-6=66 or 12+46=58, and press Enter.
Read the colours: green is the right character in the right spot, purple is in the equation but somewhere else, grey is not in it.
Use the clues and the coloured keypad to narrow down the digits, operations and where the = goes.
Solve it within six guesses, then copy your result or start an unlimited game.
Colour clues explained
Colour
Meaning
Example (answer 3+9*9=84, guess 9*8-6=66)
Green
Right character in the right position
The = in position 6 is green
Purple
The character is in the equation, but somewhere else
9, *, 8 are purple: the answer has them in other places
Grey
Not in the equation, or every copy is already accounted for
− and all three 6s are grey
Strategy tips
Find the = first. With 8 characters, the = sign is almost always in position 5, 6 or 7, giving an answer with 3, 2 or 1 digits.
Cover many digits early. An opener like 9*8-7=65 or 12+46=58 tests six or more different digits and two operations at once.
Use the answer length. If the result has three digits, there is very likely a multiplication on the left (for example 4*72=288).
Remember order of operations. In 3+9*9=84 the multiplication happens first, so try both orders when a × or ÷ is purple.
Digits can repeat. Answers such as 7*9+9=72 reuse a digit, so do not rule out a green digit appearing again.

What you learn
12+46=58
= is in the right spot, so the answer has two digits. The +, 4 and 8 are in the answer but misplaced (purple); 1, 2, 5 and 6 are out.
9*8-7=65
9, × and 8 are present but misplaced; −, 7, 6 and 5 are out. With +, 4 and 8 known, 3+9*9=84 fits.
3+9*9=84
All green: solved in three.
Frequently asked questions
How does this math equation game work?
It is a Nerdle-style puzzle, inspired by word guessing games but with maths. The hidden answer is an equation exactly eight characters long, such as 3+9*9=84. You have six tries; after each guess the tiles change colour to show which characters are correct, misplaced or absent.
What counts as a valid guess?
A guess must be a true equation that is exactly 8 characters long and uses only the digits 0–9, the operations + − × ÷ and one = sign. The right side of = must be a single whole number, numbers cannot have leading zeros (07) and the left side must contain at least one operation.
Does the game use order of operations?
Yes. Multiplication and division are done before addition and subtraction, working left to right, just like on a calculator. So 3+5*2=13 is true, while 3+5*2=16 is not.
How are repeated digits coloured?
Exact matches are marked green first. Then each remaining copy of a character in the answer can make one other matching tile purple, from left to right. If you guess three 1s and the answer has only one 1 in a different place, only the first extra 1 turns purple and the others are grey.
Is the daily puzzle the same for everyone?
Yes. The daily equation is chosen from today's date, so everyone who plays on the same calendar day gets the same puzzle. It changes at midnight in your local time zone. Unlimited mode picks a new random equation each time.
Can the answer contain fractions or negative numbers?
The hidden answer always uses whole numbers, gives a non-negative whole-number result and never needs a fraction along the way. Your guesses may pass through a fraction (10/4*2=5 is accepted) as long as the final equation is exactly true.
