How to use the Simon Says Game
Choose your rules: tick Strict mode if you want a single mistake to end the game, and pick a goal (Endless or 8 to 31 steps).
Press Start game. Simon lights up one color and plays its tone.
Repeat the sequence by pressing the same buttons in the same order. Use the mouse, tap, or press 1-4 (or Q, W, A, S).
Each round adds one step to the end of the sequence. In normal mode a mistake replays the sequence and costs one of your 3 lives.
Reach the goal or beat your high score. Your longest sequence for each mode is saved.
Speed and goals
Like the original handheld game, Simon plays faster as the sequence gets longer. You always have 5 seconds for each press.

Memory tricks that work
Chunk the sequence. Group steps into threes or fours ("green-red-red, blue-yellow-green") instead of remembering one long list.
Listen, don't just look. The four tones form a chord, so every sequence is a little melody. Many players remember the tune better than the colors.
Say it out loud or use the key numbers: "1-2-2-4-3" is easy to rehearse in your head.
Focus on the new step. Everything before it is the same as last round, so you only need to add one note to what you already know.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play Simon Says?
Simon plays a sequence by lighting up the colored buttons one by one, each with its own tone. You repeat the sequence in the same order. If you get it right, Simon repeats the whole sequence with one new step added at the end. The game continues until you make a mistake or reach the goal.
What is strict mode?
In strict mode a single wrong press ends the game immediately, just like the original electronic toy. In normal mode you have 3 lives: a mistake costs a life and Simon replays the current sequence so you can try again.
How long can the sequence get?
In Endless mode there's no limit. The classic goals are 8, 14, 20 and 31 steps, which match the four skill levels of the original Simon game from 1978. Reaching 31 is a real memory challenge.
Does the game get faster?
Yes. Each step plays for about 0.42 seconds in rounds 1 to 5, 0.32 seconds in rounds 6 to 13 and 0.22 seconds from round 14 on, the same pacing as the original toy, so long sequences come quickly.
Is there a time limit for each press?
Yes. You have 5 seconds to press each button. If you wait longer, it counts as a mistake, just like waiting too long on the original toy.
Can I play without sound?
Yes. Untick Sound and play using the colors alone. Each button also shows its key number, and the status line under the board tells you whose turn it is.
What tones does Simon use?
This version uses the frequencies of the original game: blue about 209 Hz, yellow 252 Hz, red 310 Hz and green 415 Hz. Together they form a pleasant chord, so any order of notes sounds musical.
